Default Engine starter questions

2005 C2S ~67K miles

This just started - three times in the last week or so, a screeching/squawking sound could be heard while the starter was engaged and starting the car. No noticeable difference in engine cranking speed (compared to my 20K miles history with the car) - the car starts just fine. The infamous troubled starter cable was replaced 25K+ miles ago.

Do you think it's the starter?
Would you preemptively replace it?
Would you go with the Porsche $900-1200 part or a Bosch $300 part?
What other work PM work can I do at the same time because of disassembly in that area of the engine? AOS (no symptoms so far), for example?
Anything else to worry about or plan for?

Thanks for any advice.

I'd assume that Bosch is the OEM manufacturer but at $300 it sounds like a remanufactured one. Go with a new one if your going to the trouble of changing the starter which will be a good bit of labor.
