Low oil read after oil change
I've heard the horror stories about shops overfilling with oil. Anyone heard of picking up a car from an oil change, driving 60 miles, checking the oil level and getting a read one tick over the low level mark?

no, but it sounds like they just drained and added 8qts which is pretty much how you do it, and now you need another 3/4 or so to bring it full.
wouldnt worry about it. as long as they tightened the drain plugs lol

the reason that happened also is because when they drained it ( and left the oil in the turbo's ) is that whey when you refill with 8 qts, you have to then wait the 7/10 mins or so idling while waiting to be able to gauge the level to determine you still need the add'l .5/1.0 qt to bring it full. some techs are just too lazy or otherwise engaged to wait the necessary time to get the motor to operating temp, to check it and add as needed..
while all of us that change our own oil will definitely wait, check the level, and add as needed, even though it's a pita to do.

I have to stress that it is at the oil change when the digital oil level system is confirmed to be working right by the tech following the factory drain procedure and refilling the engine with a known quantity of oil and confirming the digital oil level reading *agrees* with how much oil was put into the engine.
The reading should be at the max line.
Also, I recommend whenever one picks up his car after a service (or repair) he treat the car as an unknown at some level.
In the case of having the car in for an oil change check the oil level. You might have drive the car, at least run the engine some before it is warm enough for an oll level reading be taken but better to find the level is low while you are still close to the shop rather than 60 miles away or worse somewhere in between and have the low oil level warning come on.

Guys what can I say. They are a shop with good reputation, they also prep race cars and stuff. I guess this time they might have dropped the ball a bit.
