easier to simply install a walbro 450 pump and spend 200$ plus 1 hr labor

Most of the time it is the U shape hose on the pump that is punctured and can be replaced...Cheap fix!!!!

Just lost a pump in my 996tt at 45k miles. Hadn't noticed but he said that there are two tanks, because of the AWD. Does it have 2 pumps as well or more? My BMW has 2 pumps but only one tank obviously, but there is a low and a high pressure fuel pump. The high pressure one is about $800.

Your turbo only has one pump, stock anyways.
It's an easy swap, google the diy here and you'll see how there are dual pickups for the hump shaped tank. At 15+ years old I would consider a new pump preventative maintenance you'll be glad you did. Stuff rarely craps out in a convenient fashion.

The fuel tank is like a saddle over the front drive shaft and the only pump has two pickup , one on each side....

Form follows function but man that is one ugly fuel tank. Looks like a stand in for the "Blob".

Interesting that Porsche still used the AWD hump tank on the US spec 997GT2/3. Only the ROW 90L tanks are flat bottom. The 996GT2/3 tanks are all flat bottom.

What is the best material to replace the U bend hose? Is there a supplier with the PFTE accordion hose which could be used? I'd like to replace this preemptively.

I had my mechanic replace with a Gates submersible fuel line hose see pic below. This after the OEM line ruptured (under warranty) and the new pump also ruptured...no problems since.

I would be worried about that pinching if it wasn't preformed in a bend. Does the length of that bend effect anything? Could it be longer? I was thinking of using this. https://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/-p-...FciEfgod_zIEXQ

Whole new pump is $482.97 with free shipping at warehouse33 (using the RENNLIST promo code). Not sure I'd want to spend the time and effort to rig something up on a part that vital given the price of a new one.
