You may not be alone in your search. A friend reported a TTS on a flatbed in the Boston area this morning. Burned so badly that there was not any rubber left on the wheels. Only thing left was the rear deck lid with the Turbo S badge on it. He isn't a Porsche guy and couldn't tell me if it was a 996 or 997.
Considering the badge was undamaged I would assume it was not an engine fire. Hopefully no one was injured if it was a wreck.

The 996 Turbo S has been on my sights for years too. You have to have lots of patience and get the word out. I was extremely fortunate to have my friends at Toronto North Motors source me the perfect car for me . It was not cheap but I'm on cloud 9. Good luck
