Ain't that truth. With budget not an issue, no reason not to pony up the extra $20K for the 997.1.

However, 997s are depreciating at a faster rate than the 996.

A good friend of mine has an '08 with a Kline exhaust (untuned) and he loves the car. He's driven mine as well, and power-wise he believes my tuned car is at least as strong as his '08.

Hardhitter, eventually you need to ride in / drive a mildly modded 996 Turbo...would be a good comparison for you after the 997 experience.

I think the black car that is local in my previous posts would be that "mildly modded 996" Power wise, it has a tune, exhaust (headers+catback), IC so my guess would be high 400's low 500's in awhp.

I keep going back and forth on that 996 but he is firm on $52.5 and people are questioning the mods he listed in the ads and he doesn't have receipts for them so I don't know...

There was a 996 in Knoxville TN with 20K miles off $53K and he would not come down and listed for months. There was one in NM for $40K with 40k miles that I almost got but found 1 18 miles from work, and no shipping costs. The one I bought had 43K miles on it, well maintained, but I still spent $7k on it to fix everything found in the PPI-BRAKE lite came on the day I was to pick it up, needed rear tires but all were old, added short shifter, seat belt light come on some#imes, had both fixed-lesson; all of them will need something, keep looking, there are good ones out there at good prices....c

A tuned stock turbo 996 isn't going to put down high 400s low 500s to the tires.

My tuner guesstimates that my 100 octane tuned Kline exhaust setup is good for 500ish at the flywheel. OK by me, it's just a number. The car feels strong and those little K16s make great midrange torque, it's very punchy.

Move on from that black car. Documentation is everything--esp. with mods. There's always another car. Maybe not here in NorCal, but 350 miles south of us is arguably the largest car market in country, it's where I found my car.

If you search for photos of some of the parts he claims are on there, you can clearly see the photos on car and photos of parts from the parts makers do not match. It is a little sketchy.. Is it bad? Maybe not, but the seller did also say he did it all, then went back and said previous owner did it.

It has a couple of strikes, but that is more on the seller misrepresenting than the car itself. Probably misrepresenting to justify higher price than because of issues with the car if it ran well and things check out. It should be sub 50k though.

Some may say this 996TT is a fright pig (high miles, salvage title, etc .), but it could also be a lot of fun (no affiliation):
