Default First Post: Looking to buy

Hi All,

6speed member coming over to get a little more specific response. I currently own a 97 blue/white Dodge Viper that I'm selling (anyone interested? lol) and I'm looking to get into a Porsche. Ideally, I want a 997TT, but can't convince myself to pay the additional $20-$30K over a 996TT.

With that said, I am doing my research now so I can find my unicorn. I'm looking for a "buy it and drive it" type car. One already with the major mods done. Ideally looking for 600awhp pump gas setup. Few questions I had

1. Seeing that I am looking for an already modded car, there is no reason for me to find one with X50/Turbo S over the standard 996TT correct?
2. From preliminary discussions, getting into the 600 range will require tearing into the motor. Thoughts?
3. For those with experience, what specific turbo setup/supporting parts should I be looking for in the build?

Thank you in advanced!

I'm just getting into the 966TT game but spent a lot of time looking for and researching something similar and ended up with a setup like you're looking for that will be delivered soon pending inspection.

1. Probably not beyond potential rarity premium that will be brought down by heavy modding.
2. It seems borderline but probable if you're looking at whp instead of crank, at least rods from what I've read.
3. Easiest way would likely be looking at AWE/EVOMS/Promotive kits since they already have most of what you need if you're skipping straight into high power since they'll support you through the setup. Otherwise find a well-known local specialist and work with them so you'll have local support. You can obviously spec it out with help but those are the easy turnkey solutions.

I'd strongly consider https://rennlist.com/forums/996-turb...-equipped.html that was just listed because that's a fantastic foundation to build on at a good price. I sure would if I didn't already have something going.

I sense a theme here .... getting out of my Gen2 Viper, when it sells, and looking for a reasonably modded 996 as well! GLWS! I need a back seat LOL! Small, yes, but still enough... I know coming from my 650+ it's going to be a whole new experience, but I'm looking forward to a new car adventure as well. Happy hunting!

My guess is you'll like the way the 996 Turbo delivers the "driving experience" (read: it's not all about hoursepower).

I did the UMW ZC turbos and have been very happy with the results.
The ultimate Unicorn would be a car with his turbos, GT2rs ICs, an aftermarket suspension with a larger than 330mm brake set-up, to start.

If you're open to buying a modded one, have your wallet ready and keep looking for a documented one that has data logs to back up how it has been running for a while.

It's expensive to mod one well beyond just a tune and possibly much more expensive if you buy one that has been modded a while and floats a head or junks a trans.

Oh, I do agree...It's one of the main reasons I'm looking at a 996tt. While the raw stupid HP is fun, it's not the end all. Taking my Viper to Lime Rock (upper AutoX track) was great time, but still couldn't use 1/4 of the HP most of the time.

I'm looking forward to an overall different, but fun experience. Viper for sale LOL!!! No..seriously..it is...

Thoughts on this car? For the price, I think I could get a "better modified" car (e.g. upgraded turbos, clutch work, etc.) with probably around the same or a little higher miles.

I'm thinking this should be in high 40's?

2003 with 45,000 miles asking $53K

GAIC Software Module with programmer
GMG High Performance CatBack Exhaust header system
Evolution High performance Air intake
GMG Intercoolers
Sparco EVO2 Racing seats with Harnesses
GMG Roll Bar
GMG Adjustable Sway Bar
GMG adjustable thrust arm bushing kit
GMG Monoball Control Arm Kit
GMG Bump Steer Kit
GMG Dog Bone Kit
All other bushings replaced
Stop Tech BIG BRAKE Kit (STR Racing System)
Motul HP Brake Fluid
New Brake Pads
Quick Disconnect Steering wheel (not currently installed)
GT2 Wing
GT2 White Gauge Cluster
Porsche CUP BBS wheels with brand new Michelin tires
Extra set of HRE Wheels with new Nitto Invo Tires (10K alone!)
H&R Coilover Shocks
Fire Extinguisher
Metal Floor Plates and Pedal Kit
Pioneer GPS Unit
Clear Bra
Short Shifter

He has all stock parts to include with sale and is estimating "$120K" into the car.
