Question Which is the approved Shell gear oil for manual trans & front diff

Hey guys,

I have found quite a few threads regarding the Porsche approved gear oils for 6MT and the front diff. But I want to verify if there is a current or updated list that someone could post up?

If I'm not mistaken Mobilube PTX is one of the approved oils but I have read a few threads that mention a Shell gear oil as well. I believe it was called Shell Transaxle 75w-90 but I think the name has been changed to Shell Spirax S5 ATE 75w-90.

I am getting ready to order a 20 liter container of Shell Spirax S5 ATE 75w-90 and I'd just like to make sure it is Porsche approved for our manual trans and front diff.

Thanks in advance!

BTW I've attached a pdf of the datasheet for the Shell Spirax S5 ATE and a small screenshot below of where it states that it was previously called Shell Transaxle.

I have been using genuine Porsche 75/90W 99991754600 that I purchase from Suncoast in all my Porsches. It's about $30/L.

Thanks for the reply. Yup, ive seen those genuine oil liters and if i cant figure this out i will likely just go with that but i have access to Shell products and from my research it appears that the Shell S5 ATE might actually be what Porsche is selling as the oem fluid.

If I can confirm that the Shell S5 ATE is Porsche approved, I'd like to go with that. Hopefully someone has an approved oil list. Im pretty certain that Mobilube PTX is on the list, just want to verify regarding the Shell.

Thanks

Thanks Macster! That's perfect. I see the Shell Transaxle listed there as approved for the manual trans & front diff.

Data sheet for Shell Spirax S5 ATE 75w-90 says it was previously called Shell Transaxle. I guess the name change must have happened after 2008 when that list was made. Also just for future reference the specs on Mobilube PTX and Shell Spirax S5 ATE 75w-90 are extremely similar.

Edited to add screen shot of the two approved oils from the sheet that Macster posted, for future reference.

Ok, so I found a document from Shell that lists the the Shell Spirax S5 ATE as Porsche Approved. This confirms that even with the new name it is still Porsche approved along with the Mobilube PTX.
