Thanks very much. I hand't looked at it that way. I do have to say, although I'm used to having a cabrio, the thought of being able to do a little track time would be fun since I never had a roll bar in my C2.

BTW, cost wise, I keep seeing forum posts where a TT with 50k-75k should be around mid $30s, but I'm not seeing that. Most of theones I've seen are in the low $40s and much higher. I know everyone wants to get as much as they can, but what's reasonable for say an '02 TT coupe with 50k and a ton of receipts?

Those forum posts are horse****. Nine times out of ten, a 996tt listed at a price with a 3 handle will be very tired, or tracked to within an inch of its life, or will have stories. For the car you describe, totally budget mid forties.

I agree, a few years ago you could get that car (50-75k mile, stock or very close, well ducumented) for 35-40k +/- but I think they have ticked up just a bit to about 40-45k +/- which is what OP is seeing now.

I'm sure there are still deals out there though, just need to look very carefully.

I don't think 07/08 (997) are any more reliable than 996tt. They also have the added spun cam issue.
I added a 100$ Bluetooth to my car and can stream xm or anything else I need. I did a DIY post on it.

I love the adaptive cruise on my wife's suv but that's not even available on a 991 if it's got a manual!

I just finished 700 mile weekend trip in my 03 996tt. I love the analog feel and the power.

That video by Nathan is a good one. And, as mentioned before, find one that has been taken care of, by evidence of maintenance receipts and records.

The search is half the fun! Good luck,

Steve

Hey there. I bought a 996 Turbo in November 2022 so I have some recent experience on pricing and what I've experienced. Also, my search was driven (pun intended) by a change in climate and I wanted to get out of a cabrio. The other cars I was entertaining were 997.2 911S and a Cayman GTS (kind of).

Send me a PM if you want to chat.

Really great info. I am potentially looking for a 996tt but with how they have gone up in price lately I am not sure I can find a clean one with reasonable miles.

What do you consider "reasonable miles"?

My two-cents-worth... don't give up looking. Last year, I put the word out that I was looking for a TT, and eventually started getting replies from people that were not as heavy into the Porsche scene (as we nerds are). Not that they were not informed, but they were simply treating their TT as a "nice used Porsche". So don't give up hope.

My definition of "reasonable miles" on a 996TT, assuming you're not a collector or Unicorn hunter, would be anything under 70,000 miles. Bringatrailer.com and classic.com are good places to research the market.

I did notice that the clutch seems to be a lot stiffer than my C2, other than that--and of course the obvious difference in acceleration--the cars feel quite similar.

Since I am looking at cars for around $35-40k, the mileage is going to be north of 70-80k. Can anyone please share what things I should be looking for when looking at and test driving these TTs? No matter that car I end up with, I'm going to get a PPI, I just want to try and narrow things down before I send the car to my mechanic. Any and all ideas are wlecome.

Thanks,

congratulations on your plans to upgrade and best of luck. I own a 2004 TT CAB. When I purchased it, I was told the clutch was very hard because of the turbos. A couple of long term Porsche owner friends told me it wasn’t true. While clutches may be a bit stiffer, they should not be that much harder. I took it to the shop and indeed, the clutch was having trouble at 24000 miles. It was fixed and continues to work smoothly at 29,500. Please see this link. It’s an excellent source.

then add another $30k to that and you can get a nice 996tt. Not a low miles garage queen, but certainly something nice with around 75,000 miles.
Where can you get a "NICE" 75kmile 996tt for $36k? I usually see a 50-75k mile car in the $50-75k range....... not $36k except with a salvage title and all kind of mods.

decent tiptronics with around 100k miles or so are fetching mid 40s

anything below 40k with those kinds of miles is a project car
