If you drive under 100 mies an hour ,,,you don't really need the spoiler.
Mine works fine, except when below - 6C .. I woud get an error (Seems cold weather affects it). Also repairng as DIY is quite simple. Or you could send it away as a refurbish for 150 Euros, to Germany or Forida,, Always up version on Ebay for USD 150...as well as an electrical motor replacement sold here by a member, for USD 1200 or so.
This subject has a wide coverage. Do a forum search..rear spoiler.
The "Florida" refurb is more like USD 700 (pushing 750+ with shipping), so more like 625 Euros...

The Florida guys will replace all the o-rings, as well as, the fragile plastic bits in the pump if they are in need, however, so you are paying for more than just a refill.

I get the same message, but my spoiler goes up and down with no problem.

I bought the kit off you this evening Dave. As it stands the spoiler is still adjusting, but the driver side is leaking bad. Would you recommend i raise it and put bubble wrap or something else in between to ensure it stays propped up until i receive the kit? I have it in the down position right now to avoid extra pressure on the system.

I appreciate all the help from everyone! I believe Dave's kit is inevitably the best long term solution. The reviews on his kit speak for itself. My car was throwing the failure message when it had 12-13k on it. The issue would most likely arise again in the near future even if the stop leak did work for the time being. I'm also all about shedding the weight of that pump, lets be honest the spoiler looks best in the upright position. I have no problem with it being in a fixed position and finally getting rid of that failure light! The removal of the pump looks like it will make up for the extra weight I am carrying around on myself right now.

Thanks again for all the help guys!!

Cheers,

-Rob

you will receive a very detailed illustrated step by step instruction manual with purchase. Getting the wing off is outlined in detail.

gl w it!

btw...was a long ago posted cut and paste tutorial.. i take credit only for having stumbled upon it.

add: if you don't happen to nail it, i have the ebay kit i'll part with cheap lol
I can honestly say because of you my spoiler now operates w/ no error message regardless of whether or not those were your instructions. A close friend got on my case for trying to take the easy way out without attempting the repair first. I feel a key factor was filling one port at a time which someone mentioned in a previous post. The pump appears to digest quite a bit more fluid this way. It was the 3rd attempt.

Thanks again my friend.

Good job ,
Every time I open the engine bay,, I always run my finger underneath the plastic cover covering the cylinder for the oil leak,, then pop it open and check visually ,, even though the banjo plugs may rotate,, make sure that both upper and lower bolts are tight.. also always carry two 12 mm spanners, iin the car.

As for refilling the spoiler fluid it has many well written DIY as you have found on this thread and can be done alone or with a friend. I have also ordered the ram removal tool, from Pelican for the eventuality, for USD 32. Refilling of the softtop oil reservoir is much an easier job. In the event my inner parts go bad,, I will send them off to http://p-speed.de/ and for softop hydraulics to
http://www.tophydraulicsinc.com/en/8-porsche

I also feel strongly that, for normal street riders,, we should maintain OEM at a lower cost as long as possible, even though my PO has done a drastic Techart mods on my body.

Lightbulb Convertible Top Fixed Warning Light

Just FYI for the forum. My 1999 (996) Cabriolet had the spoiler stuck problem. After replacing the battery I had the "spoiler alert" warning light on, but it was in the down position. I manually raised it, but then it would not manually go down. I was going to hit the interstate and go 76mph, but I first when to the store and upon coming out I decided to lower the top. That made the spoiler go down. The warning light also went off and stayed off. Something to try if you have a convertible. Good luck.

there is no connection between the two, chance luck I am guessing. Carrera has electric wing, turbos came with hydraulic mechanism. It’s the hydraulic parts that usually malfunction.
