I Recently purchased my 03 Twin Turbo and would like to get some feedback. What should my first modification be?

For a true value added performance upgrade, do suspension, ECU, exhaust in that order.

If you are not as interested in performance and just want seat of the pants feeling do the exhaust.

03Twin,
Congratulations on your new car.

I'm going to be the odd man out here and ask why you want to modify your car?

The 80/50 rule would state that 80% of people can only drive their Porsche to 50% of the car's limits.
(If you're ever lucky enough to get a ride with a Porsche factory driver in a stock Porsche, or get a ride with a Porsche engineer up the front road into Weissach, you will never doubt this).

In any case, enjoy your car.

Do the ECU (Upsolute) chip. That is where you feel the most difference. After that exhaust.

Thanks for all of the great advice. It sounds like the first choice should be either the exhaust or the ECU. I will do a little more homework and make a final decision.

First mod should be a short shifter!! A lot cheaper than anything else and will change the whole feel of the car...A fun DIY too

Msindi,

I am considering this part. Why B&M vs others? Where can I buy it?

I think the shift throws are way too long.

Thanks, David

I think B&M is the best "inside the car shifter"...It is made of all aluminiumand replaces the factory plastic (crap) bearings. I believe it has the shortest throw of its type of shifter.
Some people combine an in the car shifter like the B&M with one that goes under (Ruf, techart, etc...). I have not troed this type but might be doing so soon...I have read threads of pwople switching from Techart/Ruf to B&M

I think a few of the posters on the board have bought just the exhaust (which almost always includes the 100 cell cats) and have gotten minimal gains by themselves. Apparently you really need to modify the ECU to utilize the decrease in back pressure.

MY 1st upgrade to my '03 TT was a B&M Short Shifter. This is, without question, the most important- dare I say essential- upgrade/mod you can do. The stock shifter feels like trying to find your gear in a butter churn! With all the power and the incredible performance potential of this car you must be able to quickly and accurately upshift and downshift. Secondly, if you don't want to radically alter- just improve- the stock suspension try GT3 adjustable sway bars. They will flatten the cornering and allow you to balance the car for better turn-in and predictable drifts thru corners. B&M Short Shifter- $209, GT3 Adjustable Sways (aftermarket) $1200.
