Default A night with 28 pounds of boost...

So and friend and I were messing about last night with the waste gates (damn there's very little resolution and then it becomes way sensitive) and shimmed them pretty tight. Kaboom... using Stephen's boost gauge (I'll take some pics this weekend) Kevin's turbos were trying to hold 28psi. With Stephen's GIAC programming the 1.3bar limit has been removed. Needless to say, I hit the "next" limiter lol and the car barfed/choked as the throttle body shut. Yes I was running pure 100 but, I backed it down. I'm only looking to run 1.4bar in that mode anyways

So we backed it off and went about a small zip-tie and a half's width. The car now holds 22psi and felt very perky last night. AFR's were in the high 11s, so I'm pretty rich which is fine with me

PS If anyone wants a "free" upgrade. Shimming the waste gates is a little 'ghetto' but still you might get to go a few more PSI and hell it's free. Then again, make sure you have a data logger and are measuring your AFRs.

NOTE TO SELF: Never buy Sharky's 996TT if it comes up for sale...

LOL... It'll have a new engine by then

Yes as I was saying I backed it sraight down to 22psi. That's not exactly dangerous with 100 octane and then again I had a real-time AFR gauge going...

Running at 1.5 BAR (22psi) must be fun, but 1.9 BAR(28) sounds engine scary.
How much of a difference in the stock and Stephen's boost meter are you seeing?

where are you getting your a/f reading from? I bet those turbos are throwing more hot air than anything at that pressure but, it's krazy to beleive you can squeeze out enough fuel whith ...... what size injector?

Yes 22psi is fun... 29 is just silly and that was my fault for for not setting them correctly. I have modified waste gates as well and the darn things are hella touchy. The area of real sensitivity is only maybe a zip tie and a half in width (very small) and it goes from pushing 1bar all the way up to that silly stuff...

The disparity between Stephen's and the stocker was significant. I think you already have a boost gauge, right? If not I would get one....

The same data logger (it's also got a real-time AFR gauge that uses the OBDII port functions) that David uses. I agree with you and hence I backed them off to a more reasonable 1.4bar asap. Still using the stock injectors which are apparently good for 65cfm, which for some reason I am nowhere near yet Leaks... or some other problem.

Sharkster,

I think you meant lbs/min. not cfm right?

65cfm X 0.07 = 4.55#/min. = only about 5hp, 100% duty cycle

911tt's have fuel systems good up to about 60-65#/min. airflow. The goal is to get about 50-60#/min airflow at reasonable boost pressures. It is my understanding that 911s can live long and happy lives at these levels.

Heya Garrick, yeps that's what I meant... 5hp doesn't sound too good. I'll take it to the track soon...

BTW, I heard a rumor that awd cars do not have to do the dyno smog check because they only have 1 set of rollers. Are you up for renewal soon?

LOL I have a nasty video of what happens when my car goes on an AWD dyno They'll have to break my legs first before getting me to do an AWD one... Now if they want to drop the front drive shaft (good luck on a Tip) then they are welcome to do so...

But yes, we are exempt....
