steve is there any potential for harm or more juice needed from the ballast by running a 6k VS a 4300 stock??
after reading this thread and realizing i too am old and nearly sightless ( tho dmv has decided i can "see" well enough to let me drive another 5 yrs minimum lol ) i also was thinking last night while driving ( as i am literally in the woods w NO streelamps ) that a few k more luminescence couldn't hurt.
or could it??
i don't think so mark. i simply got a good deal on them with some other parts i picked up. mine are fine.(or at least as good as my old eyes can see!)
it might also be the projector bowls are getting 'burnt' depending if they've seen extended usage over the years
It's probably the problem I have. My headlights were becoming very weak, so I've replaced both bulbs (Philips). Didn't help. I still see my own shadow when someone driving behind me at night.
I guess the only cure would/will be to completely replace the headlights, but I'm open to any suggestion. Anyone?...
ha! i was gonna ask but after all that alpine stuff i just asked ya about and didn't "move" on em ( yet ).. i figured i'd wait lol..
plus still waiting on jsadecca and the calipers!!
no worries mark. i still have all the stuff you asked about. so busy with the motor build i haven't pushed much of anything.

im no electrician but could the ballasts be going bad? they can be replaced much cheaper than the 1500$ for each headlight!
That sucks!
You could bake the headlights and open them up to replace the projectors...
Our headlights use what is industry-named, the Hella RS6 projectors; as used in the Audi C5 RS6's. Very good projectors and funny enough are considered to be much better then what the 997's got. There will likely be others that fit as well with some modification.
Cheers,
Rob

Ballasts either work or they don't, really no possibility of performance change...the bulbs and projectors age/usage definitely has effect on performance though!

Yessir! I imagine there might be some trimming and fitting involved putting the Evo-X ones in but certainly doable.
Bake= put in the oven to heat at around 150F to separate the housing/lens
Not sure I'm going to take that path. I'd probably end up with a huge mess in my oven... Starting tomorrow, the days will become longer again...
Still... the idea is tempting...
@32krazy! and rmc1148: Thanks for the input, but as 993GT said, the ballast either works or doesn't. Cleaning the connectors most probably won't do any difference.
