This thread seems to be frequented by those who are keen on 996t values so if you all don't mind I have a question: how much does an accident requiring front bumper refinishing diminish the value of a 996t today? Thank you!

I would need more details. Pictures? How extensive is the front damage?

Thanks Carlo. The accident was from being backed into at 2mph maybe, but it caused cracking of the bumper cover that required it to be replaced with a new part as it could not be properly repaired; no damage otherwise to anything else. Thanks again!

I am an appraiser and will say that in my eyes that minimal impact should not reduce the value at all. Surely you will have those acting on emotion who feel otherwise; however, it's worth noting most of these cars may have had the bumpers refinished at this point as they are old.

Personally, I would agree with you both Carlo and s65e90. Cars get rock chips and such a minor incident should have little or no impact on value.

That being said, there are those who do believe otherwise.
Personally, I believe cars in general, and Porsches in particular, were made to be driven. And driven cars get rock chips and the like - hiccups as described above do happen. So, to a buyer like me, that little issue isn't going to matter one bit. To the buyer of a car of the type you find listed here in the Craigslist thread, I wouldn't think it would matter.
But, there is another thread in here titled "The Prestige Thread" for the creme de la creme of the 996TT market. Those buyers are willing to pay a super premium for a "no stories" car. If you replace the front bumper cover, you no longer have a "no stories" car. It may be a minor issue, but if you have to 'splain it, then your car falls out of contention for "The Prestige Thread" buyer and you are resigned to the unwashed masses of buyers here in the Craigslist thread. So, I'm not disagreeing, but just understand to justify that top tier buyer money, those top tier buyers don't want to hear the words "accident", "repaint", "repair" or "replace" no matter how minor the damage or good the fix.
So, to the extent that your car is no longer appealing to those buyers, there is value hit. I'm not agreeing with that philosophy, I've just seen it raise its ugly head in this forum time and time again.

Here is a low mileage 2005 Cabrio Tippy. Price is a little high but looks like a nice car. May be an x50 with PCCBs and the guy does not know it. Appears to be fully loaded with yellow calipers.

I think what can really put buyers at ease with accidents are pictures of the damage before it was repaired. "frontal impact" sounds bad. But if it was cosmetic damage to the bumper only and you have photos of it and photos with the bumper off showing no damage underneath, I don't think it will change the value of the car much.
