I have the Porsche CTEK, a regular CTEK, Diehard digital and the Battery Tender Plus and they all work fine.

The only reason I bought the battery tender junior over the ctek, was the battery tender will work on lead acid, flooded, gel and AGM batteries. Ctek only states lead acid. The battety tender utilizes a 4 step process.

That is because the ctek is "smarter" than the battery tender and has a charging curve that adapts to the current battery condition rather than just a generic charger. This function has to be battery-type specific as each type of battery requires a different charging curve. The battery tender is also more or less equivalent to the charge-o-mat I from Porsche, so $70 for this is a price that definitely includes Porsche tax.

The charge-o-mat II from Porsche is a rebranded ctek with less functions and at a much higher price than the equivalent ctek branded unit (see the bottom of the page). So unless having "Porsche" written on your charger really wiggles your ***** or you really fell the need to support Porsche as a company, buy the ctek branded unit.

As auto electrics/electronics are hobby and work for me, I have collected quite a number of chargers over the years. Aside from the push buttons on the earlier cteks going bad (same issue as with many hifi/TV remotes as it is a "bubble" button under the plastic fascia), they have been absolutely impeccable.

That said, in this day and age of modern electronics, just about all chargers should be ok.

I have the CTEK MUS 4.3 listed on my WH33 Motorsport page for a decent price that I have sold 3 to RL members in the past 2 weeks. CLICK HERE.

I carry the full line of other CTEK products if there is another model you're looking for.

Sorry Steve you dont have that quit right, the Battery Tender has 4 modes and switches to each mode based on the actual need, the last being float mode. The battery tender is not just a generic charger. Its also a smart charger!

Been using a couple of Porsche Charge-o-mats for years.

Never a problem.

I know, Kevin. There is still a difference. Recommended reading (even if it is from the manufacturer): http://www.ctek.com/cy/en/page/whych...ttery-charging
The Porsche c-o-m I is more or less equivalent to the battery tender that you have while the II by ctek is more than twice as much. There is a reason.

Yes, but you paid too much. And I invested the difference in beer. Who's happier?

Good point - i never even thought of investing the price difference in beer.
How long do you keep the beer before maturity?

Think there is not much of a difference after reading the ctek info and the following performance specs for the battery tender junior
