Default Looking at an '04 996TT Cab

Ok, first post on this forum. I was originally looking at an '04 C4S to get the turbo look without the engine. Anyway, missed out on the one I liked so I found some tt's and am in negotiations on a '04 Cab. It has 68400 miles and looks like it was the dealers ride for a year and now he is selling it. My problem is that it has two records. An invoice from 2013 from a p-car dealer in Irondale, AL for the 60k service. Looks like plugs, oil change, etc. The other receipt I got from the dealer was from Steinel's in OH. He had an oil leak which involved a hose and check valve for the left turbo and a check engine light which came from a detached hose. Would this lack of records be a "run Forest run" sign to you? Should a local Porsche dealer be able to pull the car up and tell me the work done at other dealers like my E350? The dealer is currently asking $38k and I am at $34995 with a CPO E350 Cab to trade-in.

An '04 Cab for $34,995?

Better get a good PPI.

No, but the price would.

Might be a salvage title?

It looked to me like he had a trade in plus the price.

Talked to Steinel's this morning to find out what they knew about the car. They remembered the car and from the notes on it the car needs brake job; secondary clutch pressurization unit, driving lights in headlight capsule, rear foglight wiring needs checked as it flashes with turn signal and the CF on the steering wheel is cracked (not a big deal as I have an Aitwe (same as RUF) steering wheel with hub adapters from my 993 and 964 so one should work since folks drop the 996 three spoke into 993's. I got an estimate of $3k to $4k to fix everything. So I offered $29995 and was turned down. So now I am looking at a 996TT Cab with the X50 kit at Jim Ellis. They are doing a 90k service and fixing some little things. I am waiting on the sales rep to send me pictures and a records check and tell me about the brakes and suspension, but I was told that they are light on service history. The car has 105264 miles on the clock which is concerning given the lack of service records. It is black (forgot to ask if it was Basalt Black) and does not have the hard top. But since nobody seems to use it not a deal breaker. Anyone in the ATL area know this car? Thanks for listening.

It seems the market is going to discount the tip cars.

Personally, I think it should be the reverse but anyhow...

Maybe, but he said..."...The dealer is currently asking $38k..."

The original car is a stick and is in Cleveland Ohio at Members Auto Lease. Bob seems like a good guy. I think he got this car a couple of years ago. Drove it as his car and now wants to sell it. I don't know, maybe at $34995 (where we ended it) priced in the necessary repairs, Steinel's told me the brakes were 80% gone 16 months ago. According to mileage he probably drove the car on sunny weekends. But me, they would have been replaced then and there.

The car a Ellis Porsche in Atlanta seems ok. Still waiting for more info I requested. The 105k on the clock does concern me. Do the turbos wear out? I have heard they do. According to the sales rep I have been talking to the service and repairs are going to cost the dealership north of $4500. Some peace of mind there.

I am also in contact with a dealership in Panama Beach FL. Their TT Cab has 77xxx miles and they are asking $35490. I am waiting for them to tell me if their lifetime warranty is part of the deal on thier car. Good incentive to drive the extra miles IMHO.

Two of these are Basalt Back over black . Eliis' is A1 black and the car in Cleveland comes with the hardtop for those interested.

I am not in rush as I have my E350 to drive around, but I do miss having a P-car in the garage, sigh. Plus I am on vacation this week.

The first one and the 3rd one sound like a great deals even at their asking price if the car is in good shape. I wouldn't worry about the brakes, if doing them yourself it's not that expensive unless they have PCCB brakes.
Plus I heard somebody around here offers Rennlister's 10% off car parts.

Saw the pics of the cab in Panama City, looks to me it had front end damage, the hood spacing looks off with the front bumper. It cOuld be its not latched down completely. The bumper does not look like a match in paint, but then again that could be the lighting. Better pull a carfax on the vin. The exhaust looks like aftermarket. That price is pretty low, so i suggest you do some homework on the car! The wing since its in the up position, it may have an issue with the hydraulics? Those wheels have to go, lol
