Auto Dim mirror works but is flopping
So the place where the back housing rotates on the ball cracked and fell to pieces right after I bought my car. I have successfully removed the mirror from the car. Is it possible to take the back piece off and replace with a new one that works with the ball on the post, or is it toast? Do I need a new mirror? I was considering a new one that has a backup camera instead of an OEM model. Or should I suck it up and buy a replacement mirror?
Thanks, guys.

Auto dim works. The plastic coupler around the ball is all busted. The company in the link doesn't fix the housing. Looks like I'm shelling out 500 for a mirror unless something else comparable works.

Yes.. at least $500. I had the same type of failure in two of my Mercedes cars and I bought a dimming one for the newer car and a non-dimming one [cheaper] for my older car. I don't know of any better solutions.

Just a thought, auto parts stores have those little repair kits. Some kits have nylon replacement coupler inserts for trans linkages and other type ball connections. Just maybe there is a size that will snap onto the mirror and accept the ball.
Think its called "Help" linkage and bushing inserts?

This happened to mine and the anti-dazzle feature had failed causing a big bubble in the mirror. I bought a used unit from an online breaker that had a sound ball and socket but failed anti dazzle with bubble. I then sent it to radar mirror and had it refurbished. $50 for the mirror and $100 for the refurb. Think a new mirror unit was like $400.
