I believe the Ruf 996 R Turbo engine conversion for the 520 HP version includes new ECU, exhaust, turbos, air filter, intake pipes and fuel pressure regulator.

I believe Adam's car is a Ruf VIN with 550 HP. There are many more enhancements for that car.

Has anyone actually done an independent dyno on the RUF. It seems to be the general consensus that it puts out more than 550 hp. Just curious?

Dear Buddy,
If you get the chance to visit RUF and they have a RTurbo engine on the test stand you can see that they do actually reach somewhat higher than 550 HP. The 550 HP rating is the reliably sustained maximum output which is the legal requirement under German law. The peak power output is higher.

PS: The test RUF RTurbo (the yellow one which is used by Alois RUF as his daily driver normally) reached 342 kph (218 mph) on the autobahn. Speed was measured by the Polizei in a legal road test.

PSS: RUF currently has a GT-2 inhouse (which will receive a RUF VIN) and currently under construction. Seal grey. This will be one really mean machine. He also does inhouse engine enhancement kits and installation for the GT-2. The last one I saw had 588 HP on its dyno run. The Italian owner was a very happy camper.

Talking

I am getting my '03 TT converted to Ruf R Turbo 550hp specs in two weeks. I removed the instrument cluster and ECM last Friday and shipped it to Ruf. My wheels and suspension have already arrived. The conversion should take 3-4 days (normally 3, but I am having the Ruf tech also install the suspension). Ruf offers 2 conversions for the Ruf R Turbo. One is 520 hp, and the other is 550 hp. The 550hp also involves a beefier clutch (Sachs, I think). If the 520 hp is makng close to 550 hp + in reality, I wonder what the 550hp conversion will make !

Ruf offers two different types of cars. One is a Ruf VIN car (like Adam's fathers car) of which approx 30 or so are made each year. The others are conversions.

I will take pics and post them during the conversion. I am hoping that Joe is the tech that does the job. I heard he is excellent.

The whole experience with Ruf so far has been excellent. I had a chance to speak with Alois Ruf a couple of weeks ago, and you couldn't speak to a nicer gentleman.

I second that quote as i spoke to him in regards of buying one of his BTR 2 conversions and the man seemed very at peace, he definately knows his stuff.

Thumbs up

RufMD, Joe is doing my RUF 550 engine/suspension/SS Kit/Pedals starting Monday so I guess your next. After speaking to JohnD II a while back I decided to do the suspension also. John is running his PSS9's at a 3 setting and it sounded right so I'm going to give that a try. I have 4 large cartons of parts from RUF ready for Joe. The number of parts surprised me, this is considerably more than turbo's, exhaust, intake and ECU. Looking through the parts really confirmed the fact that this is a not a piecemeal upgrade made up of different manufacturers but one that is carefully designed by one manufacturer with all parts designed to operate together. Asgar at Weissach has also been a pleasure to work with. After researching this for a long time I know I've made the right decision. I'll post photo's and commentary as the conversion is done.
