My wife's an attorney and I would not let her represent us in this type of situation. Better to have someone else that's not emotionally involved handle the headaches= just an opinion.

85% isn't a good ratio with a 12 YO car.
It's going to go down to 65 maybe 70% ratio to value. Since the engine/drivetrain has been involved. But the kicker is going to be the stated value vs acquired value. Range is $30 to 45K.

In case you do start looking for a replacement, this car popped up the day of your accident. I can take a quick look if need be. http://honolulu.craigslist.org/oah/cto/5020444300.html

i got 110% of retail and then some from my x50 car in '10. i won't cant even mention how high the level of compensation was other than to say i got another tt within two weeks and pocketed a bunch. hell, i got them to add $5k just for the x50 power kit which they had missed in their first offer
to the op. my advice is once you establish it was NO fault of your own? get YOUR co to payout and let THEM go after the other party assuming all their coverage is in order.
you probably have enough head and neck aches as it is. why add more? and it will NOT affect your rate or coverage or driving record if/once you establish they are 100% at fault. just my advice, and it worked brilliantly for me.

That's a nice car that's for sale.. 10K miles!! Sport seats and carbon.. Very nice..
02996TTx50, Kevinmacd and I were talking about the repair to value ratio when the car gets Totaled. What was your total cost of your damage and the first estimate value offer on your car? You wrote that you got an additional $5K.. But what are the numbers.. Damage was $28K and a value of $56K

I don't know what the dealy-o is with valuation percentages in repair costs to make a 'total,' but I do believe that as an owner you can simply tell them you will not accept a repair up to your standard, and your standard is "as built by Porsche."
My guessimate from the pictures is $22K, which is not likely a tipping point for totalling the car, but see what leverage you have based on the total repair cost vs the diminished value of your car.

iirc? it's if the damages and repair costs rising to 40/60% ( IIRC!?) of the estimated value of the car at market value that "they" write it off. i was distressed as the car was immaculate and low mileage when this happened to me. i would have loved to have begun my modding habit on that one, but decided to re-up on one that was "half" way there. turned out to be a good decision, for everything except potential resale value lol

Hey Baumer1.... I saw your car at Stevinson today when I went to pick up mine. It did not look too bad initially until I saw the passenger side where the rear had crumpled.
I dont think they have looked at it yet... the service guy said they are waiting for some specialist.
Good luck man...

Kaylan- Yep, the crumpled rear quarter panel suggests there is (potentially) a lot more going on under the surface unfortunately. Hope they got your accumulator issue resolved for you.
Stevinson is hoping to have Stuttgart (the Porsche body shop) take a look at the car with them Friday to come up with the initial estimate. The mechanic thinks if it is only body panel work the car may not be totaled, but they are waiting for Stuttgart to get there before they force open the rear deck lid to look underneath and get the car up on a lift. If there is engine or other mechanical damage, it may be totaled.
I spoke with the adjuster for the other driver's insurance company for the first time today. Apparently the other driver hadn't notified them of the accident yet (?!?) After talking with their insured, they have accepted liability (which should have been a non-issue but with these things you never know). It was also clear he didn't know anything about Porsches. When I told him it was a 911 he asked me "Is that the little one?" I can't hold that against him though- I just hope the adjuster that they send out to look at the car will be a bit more knowledgable!
They are going to set me up with a rental in the interim- I noticed Hertz rents both Caymans and 911's- not likely I'm getting one of those I'm afraid
JC- Thanks for the medical advice. I've also seen the course some of these types of injuries can take- definitely planning on being aggressive with my care.
