996 TT, really worth it?

I get ~12k miles out of my rear tires. I don't always need to change the fronts at that point. The last time I replaced my tires I replaced all four (in Jan 2013), and the total price, including on-car high speed balance and tax, was $2,125.00.

I've been in all sorts of racing cars and street cars and yada yada and owned and driven lots of different things.. currently have a 2015 Audi A3 (same as a GTI but 400 lbs heavier and AWD).. it is an avg car.. also have part of a 650S Macca which already has issues, it is quick but the dual clutch thingy does not excite me... I had an old E39 540i which I drove literally to death, an F360, Aussie racing V8s and a little 2005 996 Turbo S which is ****ing epic and the most fun thing I have ever owned. I have recently driven the new R8 V10 (slow), 991 TTS (fecking quick but meh), all the A3-A6 Audis (meh), Huracan (nice but understeer meh), F458S (nice but meh expensive), Mustang GT (POS), C7 vette (nice but meh)... tuned GTR (huge fat *** heavyweight but uber quick, meh)
I am not nice to cars and give my things the bash and mash on a daily basis.. my 996 TTS is FBO and is really tough and any 996TT for mind is the cheapest form of entry into a potential super car
Exhaust, tune, clutch, fueling upgrade for E85 and you will have 650+ bhp on tap
or just exhaust and tune and you have a 530 bhp car = JOY or even just an exhaust will net you 500 bhp
Sorry, my long winded point is **** a new car, buy the 996 Turbo... it is far more engaging and exciting to drive

That's why my spreadsheet separates modifications, which are discretionary, from maintenance which is required. I don't consider upgrading a component that is functioning as designed or changing a bumper for a new design as maintenance. Also, my maintenance spreadsheet is divided into planned and unplanned. It's the unplanned maintenance that pains the budget. I can plan for tune ups. An unscheduled alternator replacement is totally different.
I've spent less than $1000 in the last five years on my SC. Same over the last two years for my M5. I spent a couple grand after I bought this TTS in December, but I'm hoping it now falls into the standard cost like Dock describes.

It really varies every year. My 996 Turbo is not a daily driver, and I have four other vehicles in addition to the Porsche that also need driving. I travel for a living (by air) and don't drive at all many days (no driving for ~12 days on a typical work month).
This past year I put something around 5k miles on my 996 Turbo, but some years I have put way less than that on it. I bought the car new in January 2002, and have since averaged a little over 3400 miles/year.

Thanks for the offer, but I won't ever sell my 996 Turbo. When I can't drive because of either mental or physical reasons (hopefully that is a very long time from now), the car goes to my son.

DIY will help keep costs down as well. Just keeping up on basic maintenance as well as DIY helps keep you money in your wallet.
