Default UPDATE Now this is strange... (clutch fluid reservoir leaking again)

Hi everyone.

I noticed that my clutch fluid reservoir leaks (under the front trunk, driver's side). Funny thing is that two weeks ago, it was 100% full and I empty it to the maximum point indicated on the reservoir. But, it's full again today and leaking, from the cap I believe as if it's too full. The car is a 2001 tt.

I wonder :

1- How can the level can go back to full again in two weeks ?
2- Do you check the level with the car hot and running or cold with engine off ?
3- Does that fluid has another purpose ?
4- Can the fluid be armful to the electrics wires and body part beneath the reservoir (pretty hard to reach to clean...) ?

I'm still getting to learn about my car, got it 6 weeks ago !

PROBLEM SOLVED : A 3$ RUBBER RING LET AIR GET INSIDE THE REAR RESERVOIR AND CAUSE BAD CLUTCH OPERATION PLUS THE LEAK IN THE FRONT, MY MECHANIC FOUND IT RIGHT AWAY. IMAGINE WHAT A PORSCHE DEALERSHIP COUD HAVE MADE UP TO MAKE ME SPEND HUNDREDS, IF NOT THOUSANDS OF $ (THEY ARE TERRIBLE AROUND HERE...).

Yes, the fluid is pentosin and it is extremely caustic and flammable. It is common to the clutch and power steering. You probably have a bad accumulator/slave.

Guys, thanks again !

I realized my problem is about the clutch fluid reservoir, not ps. I edited my first post. I thought the reservoir I was talking about was ps...

You need a new clutch slave cylinder. REplace the Accumulator at the same time (Recommended).

+ 9 to the falling slave. it migrates the fluid to the master under the frunk. so common it;s common.
pentosin is NASTY! fix without delay.

Guys, thanks again. I'm starting to love this forum.

And by the way, I have an appointment in two weeks in a well known indy repair shop.

good luck! with certainty it'll be the fix. do NOT skimp and neglect to swap the accumulator at the same time. it's the cheaper ( $140ish? ) of the two parts ( slave = $600 ) and they are a couple of parts that need to have relative parity in age/use e.g. new + new = works as it should.

Kevin hit it on the nose! What is happening is your power steering pump assists the clutch. When a check valve goes in the slave cylinder the power steering pentosin works its way back to the master cylinder reservoir. hence overflowing the reservoir. I suggest you keep an eye on your power steering fluid level, because I guarantee you its going low! The accumulator mounted on the slave cylinder is for those times when the power steering system is not providing the assist to the clutch. The accumulator acts as a reserve to allow for easy clutch pedal when the engine is off! The slave and accumulator are both weak areas in these cars!

So your mechanic THINKS that the air (now resolved with a oring) in the rear reservoir was compressing the fluid, and thus pushed it out the front slave reservoir????

A improperly tightened accumulator (oring) that isn't sealing correctly will cause pedal issues and leaking Pentosin.. But the faulty slave still will push fluid out the front reservoir.

Well, the clutch is working flawlessly and there's no squirting anymore from the front pentosin reservoir, so I'm pretty pleased right now. BUT, OF COURSE, I will keep an eye on the issue, as I always do for my cars anyway.

What your mechanic said (or perceived the fix to be) makes no sense. No o-ring in the rear reservoir (power steering) will stop fluid from rising and overflowing in the front reservoir. Sometimes the problem is intermittent and doesn't happen all the time, but it will be back. You will need to change the clutch slave cylinder.

I don't know what to say, we'll see.
