Default GT3 Seats/Roll/Harness Bar

Finally got this stuff in the car. Impressions: The roll bar definitely stiffens the chassis - a more or less unexpected benefit. Seats are comfortable, but the seating position is not adjustable vertically, and I sit a little low for my tastes (I'm 5'9""). I'll probably add padding under my butt. The red harness belts are a little over the top, but work for me. Hey, it's a GT2 - it's meant to be a little out there, right? Finally, cleaning the rear window - I think Billhart raised this in a post - maybe I'm skinny enough to get back there, but I'm not looking forward to it!

I didn't weigh it, but it is not very heavy. As to the alloy, I'm not certain, but it is a stainless alloy. I suspect Gert at Carnewal would know the exact weight.

I looked at the window cleaner device in Griot's and it didn't seem long enough to reach the back window, maybe the side windows in the rear but not the rear window itself. So, i went to the hardware store and got me one of those old fashioned lambs wool applicators on a broomstick; you know, the head consists of two flat pieces of wood which get clamped to each other under pressure, with wingnuts to tighten or loosen. So, i left the lambswool applicator pad in place, then took a clean terry cloth and wrapped it around the lambswool, which gives it bulk and resiliance. Tucked the terry cloth under the edges of the wood and clamped it down.Spray on your favorite window cleaner and Bob's your uncle. If the broomstick handle is too long, they make a modified version on special order: it requires a saw and a few choice curse words.

Default Questions

Two questions on the GT-3 seats.

1. How comfortable are they for 3 hour trips? I'm 5'11", 170lbs.

2. I am concerned over completely losing access to the back. WHat about putting in a driver GT-3 and a reclinable Recaro in the passenger? I know it will look ugly but what about utility?

steve,
remember those 2 inch lap belts are NOT approved for virtually all competition in USA, you need 3". Crowe Enterprises, sparco, etc has them in black.

The GT3 Seats "look" sweet for sure, but I also would need a seat that is adjustable.
That's why I think I'm gonna get some of those "K5000"(vw"R32" style) Koenig seats!

How much access do you need? The seats slide forward, so they don't really restrict access that much in comparison to the factory seats. The roll bar is the item which significantly restricts access.

The seats are comfortable for me, but I haven't taken a 3 hr trip. Watt should have an informed perspective on this question.

minis are slow, you didnt show up in Elko, i looked for you in the VW class!! we coud've discussed seating then!!!

Steve,

i find them exellent 8 hours at a time hammer down, with minimum gas stops. they are much better than the recaro racing seats previously available [had them in my 993TT] from Porsche. you do need to wear your lap belt from the 6 points with your factory 3 point to stay put though... obviously, you could wear your 6 points but i dont except when racing, too much on/off time.
