Default 2001 Turbo stud broke

I am new to the board. And I know own a 2001 911 Turbo. (manual)

My indy is telling me a turbo stud broke. The cost is $413 with labor Would you recommend changing all 4? And are there stronger ones out there? My only modification is a EVOM air box. Should I do the bolts on the other one while he is in there, or is it alot more labor?

Also the previous owner put the wrong coolant in there. He is charging me $595 for a double flush to get the old stuff out there. All his other fees sound normal but this one sounds really high to me. He said there is 30 quarts. (I thought the manuals had less)

Thanks .

Those studs are usually rusted out pretty bad and a pain to take out. If one broke flush with the turbo housing,it will be difficult to remove. It will probably require drilling and using an extractor to take it out. If that doesn't work, they might have to drill it out completely and might have to tap the hole. You can change all of them if you want. They're cheap and can be taken out if not broken. Using a stud remover socket might be best.
My question is why was your mechanic in there in the first place? Were you changing the exhaust?
I wouldn't bother doing the other side unless you are changing the exhaust.

You are a stud for having a turbo. But it can make you broke. >:/

Is $595 just for the flush or includes the new coolant?

The $595 is for all the labor, 2 fllushes, and all the porsche coolant and distilled water.

** Can I buy STRONGER stud bolts? He did a POST purchase inspection. He is pretty thoughrough

This engine takes that amount for coolant. Three large radiators up front a heater core and 2" aluminum pipes running front to rear, plus heater core circuit.

The factory turbo studs are good. If multiple exhausts have been fitted over 14 years and corrosion, the studs stretch and fail. I hate removing broken studs.. It's a weekly chore for me..

So, if 3 of the 4 studs where in there, would you change the 4th?

If the studs weren't obviously rusted/damaged you could reuse. Having new is nice but like kevin stated if the exhaust hasn't been changed/removed multiple times they should still be fine.

Would you go thru the expense of even replacing the 4th and leave as it is? Will it hold until I have to go in there for something else?

Sounds like the guy is trying to RAPE YOU. Studs on the turbo are easily replaceable with hand tools and cost a few dollars from any Porsche dealer.
