How much does the X50 option add?
#46
As I search for a 996TT, I've been wishfully hoping I'd find the perfect one, but with X-50. I'll be using it solely for nice weather drives, PCA events, Cars + Coffee, etc. I won't be using it one bit for commuting. I like the relative exclusivity and the fact that, as I've come to understand it, you can pull a little bit more power out of it once you put and exhaust and tune on it. Given the way I'll be using it, it shakes more down to personal preference at this point, no?

IMO, the k24s are great if you like to sit around waiting for the power to come on.

OK...I can't take it anymore. Been watching this thread for days.
Here is my direct, first-hand experience.
I have an '03 X50...
Europipe stage 1 , UMW K24 tune, UMW wastegates, and a 964RS lwfw.
With the combination of these items, my car DOES NOT LAG. Period, end of story. I regularly hit 0.5 bar of boost in 1st gear with little effort and coming nowhere near redline. I can be in 6th gear doing 80mph and barely increase maintenance throttle and it begins to boost.
I got boost coming out my ears.
Costing over $17,000, the X50 Power Package was one Porsche's most expensive options ever offered on a 911. Don't let anyone tell you that it was just marketing hype. It is the same power package utilized on the 996 GT2. You don't hear the GT2 crowd complaining that they got screwed and wished they had those K16's in their car. Give me a break.
With a few tweeks, my X50 is absolutely lagless and kicks my *** like a drunken mule EVERY time I take it out.

Raise a White Russian to that. Looks like I'll be hard pressed to be upset with either turbo setup…coming from a 996 C2. It will get a tune, exhaust and a few other touches, regardless of it's X-50 or not.

With the $18,000 option cost I can only imagine that less that 10% of those 4000 had the option( probably 5% ) Lets say out of those 300 or so (7.5% ?) 20% have been lost to damage ,turned into a race car, shipped overseas, Mexico, Canada, leaving you with 240 left.
I certainly wouldn't limit my search with x50 criteria, if you want exclusivity, bolt a set of GT35r's on there and get some more lag and horsepower. I would bet that there are fewer gt35 cars out there.

^ To be clear, I'm not limiting myself to only X-50. It's something I'd like but it's in no way a necessity. I'm most concerned about clean/no paintwork/no accidents, solid maintenance records, low mileage…those items trump all…so long as it's a 6-speed coupe

Well, the Dudes car has ZERO lag, and it is an X50 ,so there.

Don't forget the increase in torque....
"The Powerkit increases the 911 Turbo's engine performance from 420 hp (309 kW) at 5,000 rpm to 450 hp (331 kW) at 5,700 rpm. The maximum torque, which has simultaneously increased to 620 Nm (series: 560 Nm), is now available at 3,500 to 4,400 rpm. The maximum torque value of 560 Nm, already offered by the series engine at between 2,700 and 4,600 rpm, is available in the power-enhanced 911 Turbo at between 2,700 and 5,600 rpm. So its power can be called upon in an extremely wide range of revs."
