Default Tip conversion to paddle anyone done?

Has anyone here done a tiptronic steering wheel to paddle shifter conversion? I have seen a lot of after market wheels but was wondering if someone had some first hand advise??

I am curious with this as well.

ReidN can you share some links to the replacement wheels you have seen along with the price range?

I have had a DCT Motorsport wheel with paddle shifters for the past couple of years on my Turbo. I feel it is much better than the buttons and a really nice wheel as well. Ivan does a great job and can customize it any way you like it. I believe these are AMG paddles he uses and they are very crisp/concise when they are given a pull.

there's 3 on the market as far as I know
1.Dctm...uses amg paddles and you reuse stock airbag. Thicker wheel and flat bottom is nice touch.
2.Raid brand that fvd and couple others carry. You can choose a couple different size wheels and comes with it's own aftermarket airbag.
3. tuners group....you can't use airbag but you can run any aftermarket wheel you want

I have the "Raid" paddle shifting wheel in Carbon Fibre and Leather. Got it from Gert at Carnewal in Europe. It did come with Airbag and was an easy switchover. Gert was extremely good to deal with. Ordered online and had it in Vancouver within 10 days. The Carbon is a perfect match for the car's carbon trim.

I really do not think you can go wrong with either of them. A couple of differences to note is that the Raid is pretty close to the diameter of the factory steering wheel, whereas the DCT wheel is about 5/8" smaller. The DCT wheel does have a more flat bottom to provide a bit more room for taller folks. As others have mention, I believe you get a new airbag with the Raid. The DCT utilizes the stock airbag and looks a bit more oem.

I did the same thing but ordered a smaller diameter wheel and alcantra instead of carbon. Check out my post with pics, do a search and you will find it. The set up is awesome and I highly recommend dealing with Gert, it was also the lowest price including an airbag which can run about $800.

Good luck,

Tytus

Nice... Always like to see good DIY solutions.

I had some difficulty finding the part number listed in your thread, but found some other postings mentioning to drop the 'A' off the beginning of the part number, then I removed the spaces.

Voilà .. Googled '1712670046' and found it. About $112 from several us sources.

That part number variant happened to be the cheapest available in the UK, the variations are essentially the same with different connectors or wire lengths I believe and this is obviously irrelevant to us if we are cutting the connectors off..
