Brian, got your PM. Thanks! Take it easy in the Explorer.

Can somebody tell me if an external speaker is required for the BCT-7 or BCT-8? I don't see a speaker opening in any of the pictures.

matterhorn - no external speaker REQUIRED on the 12 - there is one on the bottom of the unit - but its pretty low, especially if you have any exhaust mods. it would be an easy addition as there is a mini jack on the left side of the unit for the addition of an external speaker if desired.

i just finished mounting my 12 yesterday. on my 951 it sits just outboard of my left knee - velcro'd on the lower, left dash knee pad area. easy to run power and i also used the optional wire antenna - ran it up the weather stripping of the drivers door - seems to receive MUCH better than if using the small, rubber antenna. i'll use that on the explorer or rig a better external antenna and hardwire it as well. its a regular BNC jack.

I've just purchased the Uniden BCT-8. I'm going to try to fit it in the current CD-holder slot. It's about .05 inches too tall, but we'll see how it works.

I got the Uniden BCT-8 scanner installed yesterday. I had a hole carved out from the top of the empty compartment directly beneath the speaker of the scanner (which is on its bottom). Therefore the natural open consol slot acts as a conduit for the speaker. Sounds pretty good.
