Had a Corvair and loved it. The vert looks nice and agreed tires should be replaced, my fronts are getting old but look new= I should probably replace them soon.

Congrats on the buy. I have heard good things about BFG Rivals. They make a 245/40 and 315/30 that are within 1% revs/mile. Does anyone have any experience with these sizes? Will I rub on stock suspension?

I bought a set several months ago of BFG g-Force Rival's (245F/315R) and really like them. Especially for under $1200 for the whole set.

IMHO, roll the rear fenders when running 315s. The 315s will not rub, but the knife edge of the fender facing the tire's sidewall is not in my comfort zone.

The added sidewall really improved road feel and ride quality.
This ^^^^^ This

I have Bridgy Potenzas and they are heavy *** tires on my lightweight car

My faves are

1. PSS Cup
2. PSS

10. Daylight

I am on my 3rd set of Bridgestone tires, comfortable, handle well and wear like iron. I have had both Michelins and Pirellis. The Bridgestone's seem to tolerate heat better. The only downside is they take awhile to get use to the way they slide at their limit, it's not bad just different. Maybe they "telegraph" what the limit is earlier than Michelins. I have learned to sort of ignore that as they seem to stick well beyond that initial feeling. I will buy another set. 245/35ZR19 and 295/30ZR19.
Mine's a 2003 modded with 93,000 miles.
Good luck with the Cab!

Had three corvairs, restored them all, the first was a 65 Monza 110 HP twin single barrel carbs, and then the 140HP and 180Hp Monzas, the 140 had 4 single barrel carbs, and the 180Hp was tuboed. All were 4 speed Saginaw trans with independent suspension, and they were not dangerous only in the snow the back end would come around. Other then that they were unique cars.

If your 996tt is reserved for weekend duty, you may also consider Michelin Pilot Sport Cups given that they come in the correct sizes. You won't get many miles out of them compared to PS2's and they're not designed to work well in the rain; however, they're hard to beat in dry conditions. Admittedly, most drivers won't take full advantage of even PS2's or PSS's, but that could also be said for the 996tt itself.

Exactly Reno, I got the car back and am very happy with the results. No real hard driving yet but the ride, lack of noise and feel are all there. The difference between the ten year old P-0's and the Ps2's is, obviously, huge. The new tires make the car feel like a new car. I'm more than satisfied but got what I expected. Goodyear Tire, Redwood City, Alex has and will get all of my business.
Outstanding service, great prices and know how.
