The shot peened surface is actually a treatment that makes them stronger. John at CCW recommends this for any wheel that is going to be raced or tracked. Very nice wheels backed by a great company, I run CCW C14s on both the turbo and my race car. They also clear big brakes. What are you going to run instead of the CCW's?

+1, shot peening reduces stress risers in the material, the way to go!
Wish I had some free cash...
