Default Smoke

On start usually after sitting few hours get a puff. Read around and seems pretty normal. Thoughts? Burning about 1/2 quart at 1000 miles which seems to be on the lower side.

I usually let it idle for two minutes or so. But will let it sit longer

No two minutes is quite adequate. It is to allow the oil to cool the turbos, not to "cool the oil down". After two minutes you start to heat soak. What oil do you use?

Probably normal.

Short trips that don't get the engine fully up to temperature can play a role in the engine smoking next time it is started.

I always let the engine idle some before shutting the engine off so I do not know if not doing this would contribute to engine smoke upon the next start.

Be sure the engine is not overfilled with oil.

If the oil has some miles on it you may want to change it.

Now the Turbo is not as sensitive to this as the Boxster. The Boxster is more likely to smoke upon startup as the oil gets near 5K miles which is when I change the oil in both engines.

If you notice smoking at even hot starts when before you shut the engine off before when the engine was fully up to temperature, you let the engine idle a while before shutting it off, the oil level is ok, the oil reasonably fresh, or there's any other untoward behavior from the engine along with the smoke, or even when there is no smoke, then there's likely a problem.

Ok do notice after shorter trip and oil was changed about 1500 miles ago or less and level is fine according to gauge. Is normal I bet just paranoid lol

Just had the turbos replaced because they were leaking oil to the inter coolers. And had the full 30k service done as well.

Smoking on startup after an hour sitting doesn't sound right. Pull your black plastic inlet tubes and look at your compressor wheels. If they are wet with oil, you need to have a talk with your Turbo rebuilder. You can also pull your exhaust off and look at the turbine wheels. Let the car sit over night and see if the turbine wheels get wet with oil.

New turbos and not after an hour but hours like overnight or good 8 hours like at work for the day. How easy is it to check?

Brand new, new in box? So once every 6 days? If you want to see your turbocharger health. Pull the inlet tubes and inspect.

If you look at my avatar, the compressor wheel "should" be dry with a bright silver finish.

Well, you always have to be worried about the new turbochargers, at least one, may have a seal problem.

New doesn't mean there's no risk of something amiss. I just means there is no risk to something being amiss because of age, wear or tear. New parts, seals, etc., can fail (or be damaged before or during assembly) and thus a new turbocharger can leak.

Kevin's given you instructions on how to check for the possibility a turbocharger is leaking.

My advice is you do the check to confirm the turbocharger seals are not leaking.
