Default Bought an X50! Arena Red

My M6 had been annoying me for a while, so I was looking for a replacement. Some of the contenders were a C6 Z06, Ferrari 348/355, CL65 Mercedes, and the 996 Turbo. I've got lots of V12 Mercedes, so the CL65 wasn't something I was dying for, the Z06 is a Chevy, the Ferrari's are a bit too flashy to deal with on a daily basis.... The main thing holding back the Turbo was the lack of color choice. I'm a color guy. I'm not a grey, black, silver person (most of the time I get stuck with one of those due to lack of choice). I gotta say that the Turbo 996 is one of the worst in terms of choice. Sure there's two blacks, two or three versions of grey, bright red, bright yellow....but nothing that really knocked my socks off. Until I found a 2003 Turbo X50 in Arena Red over a grey interior. Absolutely beautiful. Just what I was looking for.

Details:

2003 X50 pack, 75k miles, PCCB's, BVD exhaust, PSS9's, GT2 body parts, carbon fiber interior trim, Champion 19" wheels.

Any mods I'm planning? I'd love to hear what you all have to say, but I'd like a Eurocharged tune (or better), IPD plenum, intercoolers, Euro GT3 seats with Scroth 4-point harnesses and a roll bar, hardwired Passport 9500ci with jammers, maybe a short shift kit, Sachs clutch (Race Street with an RS disk)..... and eventually, at some point, convert it to rwd (in such a way that it can be converted back).

Anyway, a few pictures for now from the seller's ad:

I am absolutely dying in anticipation to for the car to show up--from what I've heard, and read, these are pretty impressive cars.

If anybody has any hints or tips, I'd love to hear them.
Cheers,
Rick

Looks great. I saw this in the classifieds section, looks like a well set up car. Any more specs on those rims? The ad lists them as champion but I checked their site and couldn't find them.

Thanks all! Honestly, I can't remember the last time I was this excited over a new toy. Sure, they're all great, but this one just has a good feeling.

NSX dude: No, I don't have any more info right now, but let me send Stephen (the seller) an email about them. I believe he said they were 19x8(.5?) front and 19x11 rears. I do really like them--very similar to BBS LM's. I hope they're lighter than BBS LM's though, as those things are boat anchors. I had a set of 17x9.5 and 17x10 BBS LM's on one of my BMW racecars for a while. If I remember right, they were 27lbs for the front and 29 or 30 for the rears, which is just unacceptable for how much they cost.

Congrats, I like the GT2 bits and your plans for the mods. I wish I had pccb's I really wonder how long they would last compared to steel rotors.

I love the GT2 bits. Really transforms the car. While there's nothing wrong with a "regular" Turbo, the GT2 bits make it a little bit more interesting (for lack of a better word) to look at--less streamlined (if that makes sense).

I was speaking to Stephen about the brakes.... He says they never dust, and the pads and rotors still look like brand new. He guessed that, as long as you didn't track it much, that the brakes would be good for the life of the car. He also mentioned something a bit more interesting in that, when it's raining, they don't work quite as well. When its dry out, he said they feel like superman brakes, but when its wet out, more like regular car brakes. Surprisingly, this is the first car I've owned with carbon ceramic brakes. I'm curious to see if they're as good as they're made out to be. Also, I'm curious to see how they compare on track to my cup car (it's running on regular steel brakes with DTC70 pads).

Nice, did that car come with carbon fiber trim from the factory? Reason why I am asking I have carbon interior, and it has a lot more than yours is showing , mine came from the factory as marked under the hood. I wasn't aware of multiple carbon trims. Was carbon available as Ala Carte per piece to order?

That's a very good question. Would the certificate of authenticity shed some light on this? From what I hear, it's much like a datacard for other makes.
