Thank you John,

Where are you in the US, as I am near LA at the moment for another week?

Sean.

I've been thinking of what your 3" X-pipe without cats and just the 02 sensors would sound like and how often I'd trip CEL? Currently have a 100 cel Milltek that I love for everyday use but have thought a 2nd one for summer/track season that is at the upper side of aggressive would be fun.
Any clip of that sound?

PM me $ on that type of thing please

John, does the "quiet" 2.5" pass Smog in California? I'm considering a new exhaust for my '02.

PM on it's way.

Hi,

Yes, it passes the sniff test by a large margin.

I believe there is a "visual" component to the process, as well. If so, nothing passes the visual other than OEM. We literally have 100's of these in CA and nobody seems to have a problem with the visual. Most shops don't know what the Porsche exhaust is supposed to look like, as there are so few relative to other marques or they simply don't care and many Porsche independents will pass any exhaust.

Hi John,

That is great news. Thanks.

To tell you more about my car and my driving habits. This is my DD. If I track the car it will be something where a bunch of guys from work rent a day. I will not be racing it nor doing any quarter mile scenarios. A friend of mine just bought an '07 Targa with a switch to turn on/off the baffles. I'm not sure if you offer that. My next door neighbor is a lawyer so I don't want it overly loud when I start it at 5 AM to go work out.

That being said, I bought a Turbo. It should sound aggressive but let me have a conversation with my wife in the cabin. I appreciate any advice.

If you're open to commenting on other options I'll let you know what else I'm considering:

If you're not comfortable commenting I totally understand and it will not impact my decision.

Best regards,

David

Hi David,

I don't mind offering my thoughts - I do this for people every day. Based on your input, I would recommend our 2.5 "quiet" X-cellerator exhaust. It is a muffled system with an "internal" X-Pipe and offers a very sporty GT3ish sound without being over the top. It's a very refined, very tasteful sounding system and is our most popular selling system. It fits the majority of daily driven turbo owners criteria, especially those that have concerns about neighbors, business settings, etc.

I would suggest that you take a look at our testimonials pages - there are countless reviews of this system, many from members of this forum over the years.

It's easy to purchase an exhaust and have buyers remorse after a week, as many of the aftermarket systems are either too loud or leave something to be desired with the quality and characteristics of the sound. Even X-Pipe type systems. I feel certain that would not be the case with our 2.5 XC.

We took the time to really dial in the sound of this particular exhaust and even engineered our own SE tips to enhance, shape and develop the best exhaust note and pitch. I have heard them all and IMO, you will not find a better sounding system.

Hi John,

Thanks for answering about the Cali smog. I'm also interested in a package with the bypass option.

PM sent.

For 99+ cars in CA, there is no longer any sniff test. It's OBD + visual. The former you can confirm ahead of time, for the latter it's a roll of the dice.

I just passed with a Speedtech last week, but was sweating it. I have the stock tip adapters that helped visual and quieted it down, and uninstalled the hanger straps that are a dead giveaway and don't seem to do anything anyway.

The tech asked whether it was a boxster because he doesn't like having to pull the engine cover from the inside to do a thorough visual inspection. Oh $&@! I'm thinking. I nervously watched from the waiting room as he probed the engine compartment with a flashlight and came back 3 times to look again. Despite all this, he never looked under the car. 5 minutes later, I got my pass. So another couple years until smog anxiety kicks in again!

That's great to know jazybird.

I'm talking to John right now about adding 2.5 "Quiet" X-cellerator Exhaust System with SE tips. I was concerned about passing Cali Smog but John assured me they pass by a nice margin.

Which tips did you order? The SE or other? I'm not wild about the round tips in the oval slots but could probably live with it. Did you change the tips back to OEM for smog?

How do they sound? Most reviews have been awesome.

Thanks,

Pale
