How much would you pay and does this thing worth?

The seller wants $29,500. Reasonable or out of the line?

He's tried to sell it several times, maybe for big mod project or a track car it would be a good deal in the low 20s?

There is a 50k mile 2001 with a clean title listed in Oregon for $31k. $29k seems pretty high for a salvage car with that many miles.

 

Not worth it.

Search turned up a 2007 997 Turbo with a salvage title with fewer miles for less than $22K.

In fact, unless you *want* a project car and love bringing a car with a salvage title back from the dead -- for God only knows why for it will always have a salvage title -- it is not worth it even if the seller gave you the car.

 

$20 - $25k if everything checked out perfect? Any problems and the price should drop rapidly.

to put it in perspective I am looking at a 100k miles car with all maintenance done including trans rebuild, new clutch, coolant lines pinned, all records, 2 sets of wheels, kw v3, 2 owner, in the 30's.
Pcst why not contact the dealer on here that is selling the the 01 I believe right at around 30 with all records.

 

If you look for a few weeks, you will find one in low $30's with a bit higher mileage, but well cared for and accident free. Ask me how I know... :-)

1 would never buy a car with this level of mechanical complexity with high miles. I can do my own maintenance which saves me money but if a person had to pay a shop the savings would soon be lost not counting the headaches. I have bought and repaired/sold more cars then I can remember that's how I know lol.

 

Sorry, but I cannot agree. This car is not much more complex than a new Ford with EcoBoost turbo system. That said, you can spend many thousands more ($15K +) for a low mileage car, with the same pending repairs. Or handle the repairs as they occur over many years with a higher mileage car, just make sure (as stated in my prior post) that the prior owner(s) had been properly repairing things as they happened and spent the amount you will with your low mileage car over time. Repairs will happen in either case, why not get a car where the prior owner took care of some of the high cost issues?

 

These cars are not under warranty and need special tools etc to do most repairs or the skills/experience to figure alternatives. I can only go by my experience. People do tend to beat the crap out of these cars requiring early clutches and other parts that would under normal conditions last for thousands of miles. You rarely see older Porsches beat/modified to the extent of the 996tt. Its a shame as they are great as is and a clean stock car in 30 years will be as rare as hens teeth. We could argue this point for ever I hope your right and the cars with 100k plus are all you think they are.

 

he's right about the aspect of *most* items that typically fail/wear out have been *usually* addressed by the time they approach their mileage centennial. that's an operational reality. i've had both a low miles car, and the "better" one ( if not cosmetically ) was/is the *higher* mileage example. given it's continual maintenance and overall run time.

so for a bargain and ( i say more ) reliability? go for older. for collector garage queen trophy and wait for failure points lol? go for low miles n pretty
