Jumping to the Turbo Forum! New to me 996TT
Hi Gang, New to the Turbo world, but am on the 996 and 356 forums, as I have a 2003 C4S and a '55 356 Continental project car. Today I purchased a 2002 996 TT. Been looking for a while, and cataloging prices in anticipation. I'm pretty geeked!

Finally arrived Saturday morning, none the worse for wear. After cleaning her up, and topping off fluids, went on a 1/2 tank ride.
Couple of observations:
-Man this thing burns the gas faster than my C4S.
-Acceleration is mind boggling...
-It also has stock springs, so it seems a bit more "floaty" than the H&R springs on the C4S. Need to check into shorter springs.
-PO had the short shifter installed, nice.
-Clutch is super easy to push in, compared to C4S.
-Starter wouldn't turn over a few times - scared me - could be a switch related to pushing the clutch to the floor board.
Other than that - she runs like a dream.
I put my 19" 997 turbo wheels on. Opinions?? The 315 wide tires rubbed on the back where the plastic guard is for the intercooler tubing - so added 20mm hubcentrics. The inner side clears, but the outer side is even with the outside fender lip. So need to figure out how much tighter I can go with spacers.

I agree with all your observations, I have a C4S as well. Turbo uses much more gas then the C4S. Clutch is assisted and yes feels very light and I find the engagement not as smooth as the C4S.
Your ignition switch could be going. I think the result of people driving with to much weight on their key ring. I also had to switch mine out on the Turbo when the key got stuck in the ignition and wouldn't turn off or come out. Though my C4S never had this problem and it been DD since 03 but I don't have anything other then the leather Porsche crest on my key ring.

Oh I forgot to mention the Bose in the turbo far out-rocks the Bose in the C4S. Though it was probably exercised too much and has a buzz somewhere near the low end at very high volume or with loudness switched on.

Just be careful if contemplating changing tires, you need to keep the front and rear diameters within spec, since this is a front wheel drive car. If to far beyond spec front and rear you can burn out the viscous clutch o the front drive.

Welcome Dave and congratulations on the picking up a turbo Love those wheels on the 996. We have H&R springs if you decide to go that route, just let me know. Good luck with the sale of the C4S.
