Default New 2003 lapis blue 996 turbo- look familiar?

I recently purchased this 996 turbo in south Florida. It had 21k miles upon purchase. I am looking for information on this car and/ or previous owners. I have been surprised twice since buying.....upon removing the shift boot I discovered a B&M short shifter! Then a trip to Champion Motorsports and a discussion with a tech he advised that my car had a tune based on my assertion that it boosts to 1.0 bar. He stated that stock cars only boost to .7 bar. Is this true? I would appreciate any assistance that can be offered
Thank you

John

I got the shock of my own, I found out my car was an X50 model and no one knew, not even the original owner. I had Porsche verify this and got the Certificate from Porsche.

That is true stock turbos non X50s boost to .6 - .7 bar. So a tune is probably loaded on the ECU.

Sounds legit....so, I gather unless I get ahold of the owner at the time there is no way to tell what tune it is?

Yup, unless there is paperwork with the car.

If it's an X50, then its already been 'tuned' by the factory, meaning ECU remap.

If it's had an aftermarket 'tune' w/o any of the following -- changed headers, cats, muffler -- then some wannabe probably just threw away his/her money thinking they could get more HP/TQ by deleting the factory tune, and adding another aftermarket tune.

If it's got aftermarket tune and changed headers, cats, mufflers, then it will produce more RWHP than an X50 (say, 550HP) which will help you beat a stock 997TT at high speeds but not off the line.

Aside from all the mental m... associated with tunes, lovely color, great car. Enjoy.

Thanks for the reply, as far as I can tell it's not an x-50 car as it is not stated on the under hood label. The car had stock headers and exhaust upon purchase. I am almost debating going with a tune I know. I have already purchased and installed headers and an exhaust. So far, it does run perfectly.

It's not an X50 as OP stated per the hood label.

A tune without changed headers, cats and mufflers can still be beneficial as it can reduce turbo lag, adjust the power band and adapt an ECU that was programmed to run on high grade 93 octane to running properly on the lousier gas available in some regions such as California's 91 octane with ethanol. Moreover, 550 RWHP with only the items you've mentioned is a pipe dream and might be the mental "m" you're referring to.

As others might ask, "Do you have data to support your claims?"

Other than that, your comment regarding lovely color and great car is accurate.
