How do I access the back of my radio (CDR-220) on a 2002 996 turbo?
I ordered a BAS.1319 cable so I can get Aux input on my stock (CDR-220) stereo and it just arrived.
What is the easiest way to connect it to the back of the stereo? Is it possible to access the stereo from behind without removing it or will I need to pull it out somehow?
Thanks
Kevin

Easier to get the removal tools to pull it out. from the front. The tools are cheap!

Its a breeze with the removal tools, if you can wait for them to arrive. If not (like me), you can pull the unit out the hard way. I had to remove the bracket it sits in... You gotta take apart the "horse shoe" radio/climate control surround, and basically get at a few screws and pull it out. There were a few hang ups that made it kind of a pain, took about an hour to finish.
I recommend the removal tools if you're not in a rush!

Hi Kevin, thanks for the tip on the tool, I just emailed my local Porsche dealer (MCL Vancouver) and asked if I could pop in and "borrow" their tool to remove the stereo and they said no problem so that would be quicker than ordering one in.
Thanks!

I got it here: http://www.beckerautosound.com/parts/index_porsche.html
It was $29.95 and $15 to ship to Canada. I emailed them as there was no way to order online.
The one I received was slightly different than the one pictured, mine is about a foot long and then has a pair of female RCA connectors, and then another two feet of cable with a pair of male RCA connectors and the headphone style plug as shown.

Just wanted to thank everyone for pointing me in the direction of using the radio tool for removal and also for the forums themselves for finding out about the existence of the AUX cable.
I stopped by my local Porsche dealer on the way to work this morning and they popped out the stereo for me. It took about 2 minutes to attach the cable and then to enable the AUX input mode.
It works great and I would highly recommend it!
Thanks!

I just got the one that plugs into the headphone jack so it works on any MP3 player. The plug takes the place of an external CD player if you have one, the internal CD player still works fine.
