x50 got the news
I decided to do a little tune on my car. Bought this car in Nov 2013 from a MB dealer in NJ. Car is a plain Jane 996tt, so I thought. I buy a Softronics tune, get the first part via email, download the ECU and send it back. I get the tune back and a phone call from Scott and April saying this. Hey you said you had a stock 996tt, I said yes it is, they say no it is not; you have an X50. The ECU told the story and I have the K24 turbos. Was I surprised as I never thought this. I just was looking for a normal car not another beast. Shocked yes, unhappy, no way.

if it's not on option list it wasn't an original x50. Doesn't stop someone upgrading to K24's and then flashing the ecu. Could be someone just flashed ecu with a K24 program and you still have K16's
I'd check the part numbers on the turbo's to be sure, because if it was a X50 car it would be on the options listed.

As mentioned, look at your option list. It was very popular to install K24 turbochargers and X50 flash years ago. Look at your option tag/decal under your hood or in you owners manual.
One can also quickly look at your intercoolers.. X50's IC's are easy to spot.

I spoke to Porsche today who pulled the build sheet. I have had this car at two Porsche dealers to have some things done and neither picked up it was an X50. Porsche said today and sent me build sheet, clearly it is an X50 and no it is not on the tag under the front hood. This happens when a car is changed in process. And no one put these parts in except Porsche when the car was built. Why I did not know, I have so many cars and change cars so often, all I wanted was a slower car than I have already that I could use as a DD. Well that killed that. I actually like this car and may keep it for a while, or not. This car is nice, more manageable than my others and is ok to cruise in with my wife. Now I have to give it the granddaughter test. If they like the acceleration, it is golden.

Get a certificate of authenticity. It will have the "original factory specification":
"What nicer gift could you bestow upon a loved one, friend or even yourself, than to give or receive a Porsche issued Certificate of Authenticity? This valuable document includes your vehicle's original factory specifications, production completion date (Birth Date) and manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP). This can prove to be invaluable for restoration, resale and for displaying your Porsche at official Porsche concourse events, such as the annual Porsche Club Parade. It also makes a great addition to your trophy case! Please review the attachment for complete program details."
