Default More Tire Width, Less Fun ??

Just thinking out of the box, would narrower wheels & tires make driving high performance cars more fun, as I'm not entirely sure why the aftermarket 19 inch rear wheels on my 996 TT are 12 inches wide, when those 19 inch wheels on my Ferrari Scuderia are only 10 inches wide ??? especially when the TT is 4WD, who makes a 10 inch wide 19inch wheel for a TT ?? The weight saved in tires alone would be phenomenal

Stock 996tt is a an 18 inch rim with 11 inch rear width and 8 inch fronts. So not sure how to answer your question since I have never drove 19 with 8.5 fronts and 12 rears..

Here may be something of interest to you.

Well it is difficult to get the tires loose on these cars...you have to really push it on a track. Now there are options:
Remove AWD (remove front diff, etc.)
Disable PSM

I prefer to have my car NOT get loose (which is why I went from a 930 to a 996TT). Being able to manage tight corners on mountain roads is FUN.

basically a lower weight car, not sure if we really need 12 inch aftermarket rear wheels on a 996 TT & whether it adds anything

Skinny tires possibly more fun at low speed street cornering. Definitely less fun at the track.

The Subaru BRZ uses Prius tires for the "fun" effect but designed with a large storage area to fit tracks and a jack.

I run both 19x9x12 on the street and 18x9x12 at the track. With quality wheels the extra weight due to the extra width is negligible. 9" wide fronts are needed to fit over 380 brakes. Wider wheels will allow you to run wider tires. Additionally, tires will sit more square or just slightly stretched on the rim which will prevent tire rollover and in turn improve cornering. Better cornering/handling = more fun in my book..
