Default short shifter

I'm sure this topic has been addressed before but i am having difficulty with the search function on this site. (I seemed to have better luck before it got converted to the new format, so maybe that has something to do with it--Admin.?)

Question is which one, and at what setting (for a GT-2). I find shifting to 3rd a little wishy-washy sometimes; i am not a maniac, but used to a firm, deliberate motion and am somewhat conditioned to the agricultural gate on F-cars, which forces you to place the thing just so, and rewards with a click-clack. Apart from a short shifter kit, any other ideas people have used to improve shifting on these cars, other than (god forbid) becoming a better driver?

I installed the FVD short shift kit and its great - not overly stiff but has a bit of that "notchy" feel of the F-car gate. I think it will be just a slightly shorter throw than the stock GT2.

gee bill,
thank God you didnt get a TT, the gt2 shift is much better and shorter, and there isnt really a need for a kit in a gt2. there is a stickiness/notchiness that hangs around with these cable shifters per mike schatz, but maybe your should be checked.

This is from the mouths of the the pros (paraphrased) at PDE...

In order to prevent missed shifts, especially from second to third,.. caused by rushing. When moving out of second, pause in the neutral position for half a heartbeat...this allows the lever too self-center (per design) on the gate for third and then it's just straight up into third.

It sounds a little counter intuitive, but from experience it works very well (faster and smoother). Rushing is what causes the missed shifts.

Also I put the short shifter in my 996, and by way of direct comparison, I would not put one in my GT2. It's good enough right out of the box!

Thanks. I guess a little more skill, as usual, obviates the need for an additional accesory. Regards

Hi Billhart
I can sell you a brand new Imec shortshifter from Japan for $250.
Imec shifter works very well in the 996 turbo and GT2.
I have one in my car.
Let me know if you want one
thanks

Wilber,
Can you send me a photo of the Imec unit?

Thanks, Wilber. I wouldn't mind more info on that, and your impressions vs other products, like the Ruf. Based on what's been said, i should be a little more deliberate in my shifting (seems to occur on the downshift to 3d) since i don't have the gate to guide me. I will have the cables checked.
BTW, it appears that you were running with some F car guys a couple weeks ago in So. Cal. Or, at least your car was in the same lot with a bunch of them at picture time. Who do you know from that group?
