Default Repair Issue $$$

So I have multiple misfires in various cylanders. My cranks have also been slow and rough. The shop wants to change out spark plugs and coil packs to be certain the issue is resolved. 6 hr job to change the plugs (bumper/ductwork must come off). Does this sound right? I have the UMW software which has been running great up until this issue. Thx.

Sounds high to me. I have had my Turbo's plugs changed twice now and I am sure it didn't take the tech 6 hours of labor. That would be $900 for labor alone and then the plugs on top of that and I can't recall the cost I'm sure it was no where near $900. More like half that.

plugs and coils were ~350-400 in parts. I did the labor myself and it was not a hard DIY if you want to go that route. I did spend about six hours but it was my first time doing the repair.

Pretty straight forward when doing it yourself. We offer both Bosch plugs and Beru coils for the 996 Turbo:
Bosch Spark Plugs / 999-170-195-90-M14
Beru Coils / 997-602-104-00-M47

Let us know if you have any questions.

Be sure to have the cam solenoid brackets checked while you or they are in there doing the plugs. They are known to crack and cause misfires. There is one on each bank, just above the center plug.

do it yourself, easy/logical job. First timer should be able to do it in 4hours or so if you're a decent wrench

A few shops have claimed that the plugs and coils packs can be replaced with the car on a lift, without removing the bumper and IC's.
My indy claims the same too. I guess I will find out in about 3500K miles.

Buy tools if necessary, easier than drilling and filling your own teeth!

My mechanic can do this without removing anything. Seems unpleasant, but he does it.

I would replace the solenoid brackets- they're very inexpensive. And easy to do while your're in there.

Removing the lights, bumper, lining, and intercoolers is minimal time considering how much easier it makes the job. The most difficult thing for me was getting the boost hoses back securely in place.

Do you think that it is easier than taking off the bumper and the other stuff?
