Default 996TT or 993?

Having just returned from St Louis with a 2002 TT I purchased from a fellow Rennlister over 1000 miles, I wonder about the question. The TT and 993 are seeing similar pricing, and what makes one better than the other?

I drove each one yesterday, and I honestly do not know the answer. Each car has its pluses and no minuses! Regardless, I feel very lucky to own both. While my 993 is FS, I am rethinking that.

I thought I would post pics of each side by side.

Congrats on the acquisition!

As far as new guard vs. the old....I think my next car is going to be a 356.

If you can keep both. The 993 is a very good looking car and well, so is the 996 Turbo.

Spread the driving out so both cars get used regularly and enjoy spending time in the air-cooled world and in the water cooled (Turbo) world.

What's known as a win win situation.

Both very nice I was looking at the 993 as well when I bought my 996tt and only picked the turbo because it was the color and miles that I wanted. As soon as I build more garage space I plan on a 993 = they are beautiful.

I crossed shopped them until the day I test drove a 993. This is old school. I hated it. They're also very slow by today's standard.

The 996tt is a modern car and drives like one. Plus with the X50 and reflash, it still is really fast, even compared to the best sports cars of today.

The 993 is a beauty though. I didn't drive the 993tt, maybe it could have changed my mind. But they're selling for 997tt prices and I don't care enough for the aircooled engine to pick a 993tt over a 997tt. The 996tt is the sports car bargain of the decade.

I many times drive my 964 and my 996TT back to back on the weekends. They both are fun for what they are. I like the look and drive of the 964 more then a 993.

In a perfect world, I'd like to have both.

I don't think the 996tt vs 993 is an apples to apples comparison. 996tt to 993tt would be more similar to compare- but the 993tt costs over twice what the 996tt does now.

Funny, the same thread on the 993 board is 4 pages long. 'They protest too much, methinks.'
I test drove a 993 S before I bought my turbo. Sounded good, looked good. But, it was all show and no go. And the interior looked and felt old.

996 turbo is a modern supercar within seconds of current top models. (but the OP knows that, he used to own a 996 turbo last year, right?)

I too would buy a 964 before I bought a 993. 993 turbo is a totally different story....

Keep both.

I have similar feelings.

I have had a 993TT and a 996TT (as well as some older 911 models) and after a month or so of taking delivery of my 996TT, I sold the 993TT. I loved my 993TT and couldn't imagine anything better, until I started using the 996TT, then I just lost all desire to drive the 993TT. I tried hard to still like it, but it didn't do it for me any more. I sold it with no regrets (I also had a 993 cabriolet, which I sold, too).

However, I do regret selling my 1972 911T and my '84 3.2 Targa - I really enjoyed both of those cars, more than the 993. Personally, I dont get the 993 thing...I like the older and the newer models much more.

I feel about the same way. The 993 is a mix between new and old....which I think is why many like it. I however, would rather have new OR old, not both in one car. I'd take an '88 Carrera with a G50 over a 993 or a 964. I'd probably prefer a 996TT to a 993TT - but I would be completely torn between a 930 and a 996TT.

i think 993 is the "best" looking 911 ever. and i'm fairly sure it would float, in case of severe flooding.
