There may in fact be a good reason why they moved on from the 710N.

Didn't they split prematurely?

My understanding is that the OEM DVs are Bosch 710A.

I recently had my Baliey DVs replaced, and my mechanic and I decided on the Bosch 710P.

One of them had a very slight operating problem.

They lasted over 17 years without issue.

My mechanic purchased them and installed them. I believe he purchased them from the local Audi dealer.

when you swapped the original 710's to bailey's. was that considered an upgrade at the time and as part of your tune add on's etc?

i've had the evoms dv's for nearly as long on this car. talk about indestructable.

My OEM 710s started "honking" within the first six months after purchasing the car. The car was obviously under warranty, so Porsche was going to replace the DVs; however, I told the service manager that I wasn't about to come back every six months to have them change DVs that were known to be having problems. The information on 6-speed at the time was that lots of owners were experiencing the "honking" issue and we all suspected that this was going to continue until Bosch fixed the problem. At that time (2002) the go-to aftermarket DV was the Bailey (lifetime warranty and no periodic maintenance required.) So I asked the dealer to purchase (on their coin) and install a pair of Baileys (all under warranty), which is what they did.

Most guys back then were using Baileys to get away from the 710s (which qualifies them an "upgrade"), and also as part of a tune add-on.

That's not bad for an aftermarket piece, no doubt. You got your monies worth...

yeah, it seems the diaphragms on the original 710's were prone to early failure. i had the same issue with an oem dv on my vw gti also until i swapped it for the more sturdier replacement dv. they get torn and honk like geese flying south for winter.

with the evoms in the 96tt, i've never even inspected them in all these years. seems they ain't broke, and i don't fix 'em lol
