Sunroof delete mod

I paid £85 back in April 2021 for an Alcantara headlining, just because it was cheap. One of the very few bargain purchases i've bought for this car! 99655509106
There's a non sunroof headlining here (£130), but not alcantara: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/175835267884
And alcantara (550 euro) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284998478990
What i do to manage the shipping overseas is ask them to wrap, get weights and dimensions etc and send them a label. Makes customs easier as you can declare the value, just make sure they dont put the invoice in the box!
I just bought the carbon roof skin last month and that's being made now, was pretty good at £870 shipped in the UK.
Not sure if i should by the bigger sound absorber? Sound Absorber Roof 99755660300, it's only £33.17.

Well, I took the plunge and started the sunroof delete project... Just wonder @powderhound where did you find the headliner?? Not having any luck with that, but the roof panel and window stuff is no problem.
The windshield actually was not too bad to cut out with T-handles and some removal wire...just a bit of elbow grease!

I’ve bought and sold 4 or 5 of the sunroof delete alcantara headliners over the years but they are becoming pretty scarce. You just have to be on the look out. Market price is $1000-1200 for a clean one now if you can find one.

Some good progress this afternoon.....got the back glass out and started drilling out the 1st spot welds in the roof panel.
The urethane sealant for the glass is viciously tough to cut through....glad it was not 20yrs older!!!!

I drilled out the spot welds on my buddy Jason's @zbomb roof. There must be 1,000 of them. The roof is also glued to the transverse support that is about 4" back from the windshield. It's also glued to the back transverse support just forward of the back window. I used a heat gun to soften the adhesive.

Thanks for documenting this!! I really want to do this to mine. I hate the sunroof. It doesn't work, it rattles, and at $1200 for the replacement parts... I'd rather have a smooth top. And I need a front windshield... and my rear defroster lines are all buggared.... so I need a rear glass too....ugh.

OK, old panel is out, and plugs from the spot cutter have been ground flush. The factory roof panel fits like a glove.
Weld it back in with 188 plug welds, and I can start to put back together. The only casualty (so far!) is a couple of plastic headliner clips which got in the way of the angle grinder!
Those adhesive strips are actually a sort of dum dum ....starts off soft and gets semi hard after a time. Vibration supression and support at the same time. Nasty hole in roof is fixed!!

Yeah 1,000 was an exaggeration. I did drill them in a dark unheated garage in December though so it felt like 1,000.
If I had to do 188 plug welds, I think I'd go buy a spot welder. I have also seen these installed with panel bonder adhesive - obviously that is the only choice with a carbon panel.
For the roofliner, I would think that an upholstery shop could make a new one to match the removed one for less than $1000.
