Default Dumb guy installs battery

Well, just closing the loop on my battery deal, I ended up dorking around with my current battery and got it to hold a charge. Then, I took a little trip in the car, parked for a couple hours, only to realize said charge was all for naught.

SO, I decided to take Enrique (F1CrazyDriver) up on his offer of a good deal on an Odyssey 925 and one of his custom brackets and take a step into next gen batteries. Since my intelligence over this issue has been brought into question, I figured I'd irritate others further by doing a quick little write up

The difference in sizes of the two batteries is obvious, but the weight is the bigger thing. I'm not on a weight shedding program for my car, but the Odyssey weighs in at 25ish pounds, and the OEM is closer to 55ish pounds.

The bracket that Enrique manufactures is there as well, and is an easy bolt together solution. It's precisely made and very light as well. One thing I did notice in all of this is that my old battery had leaked, so I'm actually glad I got a chance to pull it out and clean up any acid before it caused a problem.

Installed:

All in all, very easy, and the car starts very quickly. The price that I got one of these for with the the bracket was comparable to what Porsche probably charges for an OE battery, so my thinking is that it is worth it.

It's also got a 3 year 100% replacement warranty, so I don't need to worry about leaving the car sitting for long periods of time anymore. Let's see how she does long term, though.

Many thanks to Enrique for bringing this option to my attention!

Thank you and Very nice Scott. The bracket is made out of delrin so it's light and very strong. I would say the hardness part is removing the 55+lb battery. I'm glad you discovered the leaky battery before it did some damage!

PM Enrique (F1CRAZYDRIVER on RL), he should be able to direct you.

Looks good; Curious as to whether and how this set up affects the battery meter on the instrument cluster...any observations on that?

I'll be honest and say I don't pay that much attention to the voltmeter on the dash, but will look. Last I looked at it, it was running 12ish since the swap.

I still would recommend using a battery tender for long periods of no use. I know the battery has 3 yr warranty but if taken care of I have heard and even experienced myself batteries lasting 10 years. Nice mod.

I'm using Enrique's bracket on a Braile 3121. The whole set up with the bracket weighs right at 22 lbs. There is a little modding involved to make it work with this battery but anyone handy with a Dremel and a drill can do it. Works very well....

I'm happy I did it as we'll. in terms of cost, it's almost a "free" modification.

The voltage meter reading should be be 13V-13.5V when the engine is idling and electrical loads are minimal.

"12ish since the swap" suggests the alternator is ifish...
