Default Making the Switch from 997 to 996TT

I've always thought the 996TT was the best looking car Porsche ever made and, after years of enjoying from a distance, I finally just pulled the trigger on this one.

http://2282.ecarlist.com/web/ebay_photos/7546615/

I loved my 997 C2. It was, by far, the greatest car I ever owned. I test drove a few 997TTs but, my opinion only, I just don't think they look as good as the 996TT (which is weird because for the narrow bodies, I'd definitely go 997 over 996, but somehow it all works perfectly on the 996TT). The whole front grille of the 997 looks messy to me with the LED lightstick turn signals and those weird bulbous fog lights. I also don't like the air scoops on the side as much. Somehow, it looks both less sleek and less aggressive than the 996TT to me - again, strictly my own opinion. When you add in the price difference, it was an easy call for me to pass on a few more HP and VTG in favor of the car I just viscerally preferred. (I even think the interior will look better, once I swap in a nice touchscreen stereo).

In any event, I am thrilled to be the newest member of this exclusive club. Can't wait to trade some war stories.

Welcome. That's an interesting perspective you have, but one that is certainly welcomed here amongst us 996TT owners.

Mine is my first Porsche after years of driving MBZs, motorcycles and AMGs. I still don't mind driving my wife's CL55 nor my BMW R1150GS, but my favorite is my speed yellow TT x50 Cab.

Welcome, indeed. Nice looking car. I like the alum. accents in the cabin. Makes for a bit lighter interior. Good looking wheels too.

Thanks. The wheels are Champion RG5s. They're the only "mod" on the car.

Of course, I live 15 minutes from Sharkwerks, so no guarantee that will last...

Congrats. Low miles, nice options. Are you getting an independent PPI? Any previous maintenance history? All keys and manuals? COA?
If you plan on adding an aftermarket exhaust, there are plenty to choose from; same with a stereo( which would be a big plus with Nav, BT, backup camera, satellite, IPod/MP3 capability), which the OEM is a couple generations old already.
Is the dealer going to replace the front lip?
Enjoy your "new" ride and plenty of miles.

Yeah, the photos pre-date all the work the dealer did on it. The replaced the lip, gave it a full 60K service, new tires (Hankook V12s - not my first choice, but since they're free...), and quite a bit of other nice work (new wiper blades, new amp, etc). They also verified that none of the panels have been repainted or replaced.

The one mod I'm sure I'll do is the new stereo with all the latest bells and whistles (anyone have any good recommendations for shops in the Bay Area, preferably Silicon Valley?). Other than that, I'm going to enjoy it in bone stock form for as long as I can hold out. It seems like once you start modding these, it gets hard to stop!

That's a correct switch IMHO, besides the power upgrades, you will not have the ims worry any more. Congrats and your new turbo looks great.

Congrats on the Turbo!

I feel the same as you do regarding the 996 Turbo.

Thanks! But I never much worried about the IMS anyway. I've been under warranty the whole time, but I think the IMS is 99% hype created by the people profiting from the paranoia of others, and 1% real.

I have been lurking around this TT forum because a friend has been tempting me with his 2002 TT with Stage 2 Ruf mods. It just doesn't seem simple enough for me to sell my beloved 06 C2S in exchange. Both our cars are immaculate. If only the mrs allowed me a second one
Neotorque, please post experience after making this move. Was your C2 manual? One issue I have is going from my 6 speed to a Tip. I would hate to regret making the switch. BTW, did you trade in for the TT? I would like to learn more about the price difference for these two cars.
