Default Ebay Style Chin Spoiler Installed (pics)

So I took a chance and ordered one of those generic Ebay chin spoilers ($103) that I'm sure most are familiar with. I just thought I'd post some pics and opinions for those who were wondering if it was a waste of money. In short, no. While the part that I received wasn't an exact replica, it is pretty damn close.

The first deviation is the finish in that the OE part has a matte finish while the knockoff has a shiny smooth look to it.

Secondly, the two OE metal washers that plug into the trailing edge of the lip do not fit, though simply drilling the hole a bit bigger fixes that issue.

Thirdly, the two metal plates that reinforce the bottom of the front air ducts are not there. Another simple fix in that you can simply unscrew the original pieces and install into the knockoff.

Pics are below (apologies for the poor quality), but hopefully this will save a few bucks for some of you who were looking to avoid the $350 price tag of the OE part.

I didn't have the problem you describe with the holes on the trailing edge. It was a perfect fit. But agree that it is a lot of bang for the buck, and I don't wince nearly as hard when I scrape it. I bought two about 18 months ago just to have a spare, but the first one is still going strong

I didn't have that issue either. And scraping a $130 lip does not make me cringe like the OE one does. I still cringe though.

I bought one from Ebay and it fit quite poorly. It seemed a bit too short overall, like I'd have to stretch it to fit. I did get it to kind of fit, then then the center bottom edge wanted to tuck under a but. It didn't look right. It was really a poor reproduction. It was also folded in shipping to fit the box and had what looked like stress fracture marks in the finish. Prior to installing it I set it in the hot summer sun for a couple of hours, then used a heat gun on it to warm it some more. That's the only way I could get it close to fitting, but with the center tucking in I was not happy with the quality at any price. I asked for a refund and was offered a 30% refund if I kept it. I returned it for a full refund and have been reluctant to try another because of this. There may be several manufacturers of these and the quality may vary widely.

I got the BaysonR (iirc) splitter on eBay. Can't speak for the others, but no issue at all with the two I got.

Just did a search and it looks like Bayson has stopped making the 996tt OEM style splitter.

Glad I bought a spare.

My only gripe with the ebay lip is the sheen finish as compared to the oem matte/textured finish. The fit is perfect and it does a great job for $100. I might prep and spray it with a matte textured paint to match the oem - we will see how it goes.

Has anyone gone with the style that juts out like the GT2? If so does it give the front end better bite at the track?

Bondo makes a Bumper Spray Paint that's a pretty good match. I've used it on the air ducts and it comes out nice. I found it at O'Rielly's.

Just installed the BaysonR Aero lip. Fit was perfect and is quite solid. My replaced OEM turbo lip was beat. These disposable items- but curious how long this one holds up.

The one on the left is what I received, right is OE. When I tried to mount it the center folded or tucked under and looked pretty bad. The as molded or relaxed shape is wrong, it's straight and should be slightly angled and rounded at the center.

I'm interested to know what lips people ordered that they find satisfactory.

I have had good luck with the same, on a lowed car it's pretty much a consumable so a 100$ shipped is a great price.
