I've used AGMs in my fishing boats for years, and agree they are much more rugged than traditional batteries. Marine use puts a lot of strain on batteries since you have a number of accessories that keep running even when the motor is off.
I used to have to replace the batteries annually until I swithced to AGM. The exception is my technical poling skiff. Since weight is a premuim on a TPS, it uses a little half size battery that isn't available in AGM. I have to replace that little battery every 7 or 8 months.
