But, love the UMW power improvements, and way better drivabilty at all levels. The 996 stock is a little better than the 993, but employ the stage 2, and...all I can say is WOW! Again, great looking car. Way to go at a young age to realize your goals. I said at age 31 that I had met my childhood goal when I got my first 911. "its a Porsche thing, you wouldn't understand". Way to go.

Congratulations. You have to be so excited. Know the feeling of having your first Porsche, a Turbo at that.

Good Luck.

Thought I would report back with a few findings:

- I love that I continue to find upgrades. I didn't mention it in the first post, but I was pleasantly surprised to see the car came with painted bumperettes, and bumper and door plugs from Eric upon arrival.

- During my first wash of the car I was cleaning up the engine bay and low-and-behold, I was left staring at my Evoms Diverter Valves! Any way to determine whether or not I have upgraded wastegate/actuators?

I was up under the car doing some exhaust cleaning and can't tell if the car really has the Fabspeed headers as advertised. Should their be a PN on them? I was half expecting some tubular looking headers, so if the Fabspeed (from 2006) look much like stock units, that might be what I am seeing.

On a good 3rd gear pull I can register a brief spike to 1.1BAR on the factory gauge, though generally max out at 1.0Bar. I do wonder how much room for improvement there would be with a more "modern" tune? My car has a GIAC tune from 2006 and I have to wonder how much smoother and more powerful the offerings from Proto or EPL would be. A local guy to me has an Upsolute tune and claims he can spin all 4 tires in 2nd gear on a cooler day. Not saying I want the Upsolute tune (heard the nightmares), but does my car maintaining traction through 2nd indicate I am leaving some power on the table with my older tune?

Other than that, I have been driving it just about every day and loving everything but the fuel mileage. With 100% city driving (9 miles round trip to work and back), I averaged 14.7 MPG on my first tank. I think the biggest issue is my thermostat is closed for most of the drive and therefore I run slightly richer to get warmed up.

I also placed an order through ECS for smoked side markers and a few missing trunk components (grill plate and screw, etc) to hopefully arrive in the coming week or two.

My GIAC tuning (EVOMS Stage 2) is very smooth in its delivery.

If I were to upgrade my tuning, there is no question in the world about who I would use...UMW. Kevin is the man.

Spin all 4 tires, I think he is expanding the facts a little. The front never gets 100%, in fact the viscous front coupler only transfer 30% of max drive power to the front wheels.

The front wheels receive a minimum of approximately 5%, to a maximum of approximately 40% of the drive power.

In a static condition and assuming a 200 lb driver, the Turbo has ~2220 lbs of weight over the back wheels, and ~1480 lbs of weight over the front wheels. At just 0.5g longitudinal acceleration, the dynamic weight transfer places ~2520 lbs over the rear wheels and ~1180 lbs over the front wheels. With a modified engine producing 600 lb-ft of torque, this would result in ~240 lb-ft of torque going to the front wheels (assuming the full 40% transfer is in effect). I think 240 lb-ft of torque might spin wheels that are supporting only 1180 lbs of weight.

Hey, thanks for the support! We appreciate your business.

Drop me a line if you are ever in need of something else for your beautiful Turbo!

The visous coupling needs rpm to cause greater lockup, therefore from a standstill the transfer of power is at its least, so the 35% to 40% is not present on take off. The faster the internal plates are spinning relative to each other, the more torque the viscous coupling transfer. The basis is based on wheel speed between the front and rears.

The RPMs are high because the rear wheels are spinning at launch.

A drop clutch launch at 4000 RPM provides plenty of RPM, power, and longitudinal g to spin the front wheels (modified engine).

Good info to have on the coupling and torque split.

To be clear, I am not disappointed, nor looking to spin my tires at all, though I was using that as a benchmark to see if the GIAC tune were outdated in terms of power delivery, etc.

Any way to determine whether my WG actuators are upgraded units?

Thanks!

Congrats man... If you want to come up to Fredericksburg and put it on the lift and check it out, I'll give you a hand getting to know it. I know my way around a 996TT.

Mike
