Default grumpling/grinding problem when I accelerate out of a turn. What could it be?

Ok, I have an 01' Tiptronic, and I noticed that when I accelerate out of a corner I was hearing a grumbling coming from under my seat area,(possibly a little bit forward of seat). I wanted to eliminate the wheel bearings, so I replaced them, and the problem is still there. I checked for play in the driveshafts, and the Cardan (sp?) shaft, and can't find any.

Any ideas?

Can I unhook the Cardan shaft, and see if the problem is still there? I've heard you cant run RWD on a tiptronic though.

My first thought would be to drain the fluid and inspect for metal fragments. If it's making that much noise, I'd think you'd find something...

It's your automatic transmission mount. Replace the mount. I had the same issue.

I was once getting the same behavior but not when coming out of a corner but when accelerating at low RPMs. It was the transmission controller. The 2001 has older programming which can get confused after driving in a spirited manner for a while. Happened to me after a track day on the way home. Had to replace the programmer with a 2003 unit.

Do a search and you will see more info on the subject. Porsche put out a Technical Bulletin on the subject but did not do a recall.

See if when you accelerate out of a corner in a lower gear at RPMs above 4-5K if you hear the noise. Mine did it from 1500 to 2500 RPMs; after that the sound went away.

Hope this helps.

Tires are sized properly. I tried to see if the rpm was issue by coming out of corners in 1st gear, and it still did it.

-seems like the noise is coming under my seat.

-Now I have also notices a couple of times the last few days of testing for this that I occasionally get a boost of power where the tranny seems to "bang". this almost seems to feel like you are getting the power abruptly. ( not sure if this makes sense.)

My 03 would make a muffled bang until I changed the transmission mount which fixed it completely.
