The Rebuild of a 996 Turbo
#16
If you plan to keep the car, maybe you can get a good deal to have the whole car painted. If you decide to sell, I hope you get the diminished value claim. Either way , it's a frustrating situation and I hope things work out for you. My father has a 545i that had a front end collision. Both aluminum frame rails had to be replaced and glued back to the the unibody. It was on a cellette bench so it's guaranteed straight. It's been 3 years and the car has no problems. The only problem is selling the car since it's listed on carfax that the airbag was deployed and that there was frame damage.

That was the initial estimate and was before they sent it back to Sunset Porsche to take the dash out! I'm checking to see if they will paint the entire car, wish me luck

If it wasn't your fault they will paint the whole car. I'm sure those niggling little aches and pains or injuries aren't healing as fast as you thought.
They want your release, you want it painted. Check.

Good luck. The whole car should be painted considering all the amount of parts that are already removed from the chassis. More work? Yes... but I would argue and refuse till you get your way.

Three months later and she's finally ready for paint with the new panels. I've been fighting with the insurance and they still refused to paint the entire car. I'm going to pay the extra amount for the entire paint job and try to get it back later but I doubt it will happen..

Thanks, only a couple weeks left! I paying some additional money to get all of the black/grey trim pieces on the outside painted. For example, the front lip, side skirts, under the mirrors, etc..
Lots of work left and the insurance company won't even pay for an interior detail
"Your car has been at the dealer for the last week having the dash/instrument panel re-installed. We wanted to get that done before painting. It should be ready to go in the booth to get sprayed the first of next week. Then another week or so for re-assembly, buff & polish and clean up.
Also still needs the suspension alignment and brake caliper install. When everything is done it will go back to the dealer for clear fault codes and systems check. I asked the adjuster to pay for an interior detail but he denied it. We’ll see how it looks when done and maybe ask again or contact USAA directly."

First track day at the Ridge after the rebuild and brand new paint job. I also added in some more toys so she would handle a little better but desperately need some coilovers

Looks good.
BTW, I hit a mule deer out near Ely NV with my arctic silver 2003 Turbo just a couple of weeks after buying the car used with just 10K miles on it in June of 2009.
Couple of months later and over $25K in repairs as good as new. I put around 100K miles on the car since then. Only a couple of real savvy car people have spotted the car has been repaired. One car salesman (ex body/paint man) noted the panels (new front trunk lid, passenger side fender) didn't have the factory orange peel finish. Another person, a car salesman with about 100 years in the business noted a bit of difference in the metal flake on the passenger door which received a bit of paint.
I have pics of my car on a Celette Bench being checked out for any hard points being out of alignment. Thankfully no frame/chassis/tub damage so the repair was pretty straight forward.

The car looks fantastic! Did you go with 2 layers of clearcoat or 3? I'm having a complete respray done soon on my arctic silver 996tt and I'm pushing for 3 layers. My body shop sprays glasurit. You can check out my build thread
