Default Clutch Question

After replacing the slave cylinder my clutch feels like a Honda's. Virtually no resistance at all. Is this typical? If not, how do you get some "feel" back?

Get the GT2 conversion and be done with it.

+1...do a search, there are differing opinions, but I love mine and I have used it in dense traffic.

Looking at a 996 GT2 a few weeks ago and I had a chance to try a 996 GT2 clutch out -- car stationary and engine off (I was offered a test drive but I declined) -- and I'm not sure I could live with that day in and day out in dense traffic.

Sincerely,

Macster.

my take on the non assisted gt2 slave clutch mod, is that the results are only questionable ( let alone untenable ) for those that haven't had long term experience with porsche's that had no hydraulic clutch assist. it's not that big a deal, and actually, the more genuine clutch "feel" will always be non assisted. clearly all that fancy clutch stuff was a concession to a different target buyer ( i dunno, those with slightly diminished left legs? )

i'm not complaining about the stock setup, and it doesn't bug me at all, particularly on those rare occasions i'm stuck in traffic. i'm just sayin'.

Well, clutches and their feel are a personal matter, but I have over 250K miles of driving my 02 Boxster with its unassisted clutch -- original clutch too -- and have no complaints -- that is one sweet clutch! -- and and uncountable miles driving other cars with unassisted clutches and I like and appreciate an unassisted clutch as much as anyone but that GT2 clutch...

Cured me of having any desire to do the GT2 clutch switchover.

The Turbo's clutch is over-assisted no doubt about it but I have no problem getting smooth engagement, smooth take offs, even on taking off on an uphill grade.

I'm leaving well enough alone.

If I get to the point my left leg or foot can't tolerate the clutch I think I'll probably get a PDK equipped car.

Sincerely,

Macster.

250k on a stock clutch, i applaud your driving style, and would like to think myself capable of similarly non abusive footwork. i'm not convinced all gt2 clutch mods end up with a uniform result. i'm sure you can appreciate that possibility also. it's kind of a "mod" and not a factory fix. big difference, imo. so, yeah... i've driven 'em, it was very similar ( the one i drove ) to an older porsche. my take.

agree also, when clutching is an issue in my 6spd, i'm gonna get a pcar with pdk too. now that they've properly sorted it. i have only driven the 991s, and it works flawlessly, as you know. no matter what one's overall take on the newest iteration might be. i was not a fan at all of the previous tips, especially in the tt's. they all reminded me of those old vw's with the auto shift ( no disrespect, meant, really ). but that 7spd pdk, is another animal altogether. i like it just fine.

OP, sorry for the diversion. i have priors.

I felt the same way when I sat in a GT2 and tried the clutch out by pressing it in a few times. I didn't think I could live with it. Then I drove one and after literally 3 minutes of driving it the clutch felt completely natural. You have to drive a car with the GT2 clutch to get a fair assessment.

Hmmm. I was offered a test drive. Maybe I should have taken one?

Too late now I think, but the next time I get offered a GT2 test ride I'll take it.

Sincerely,

Macster.

absolutely agree with powdrhound. I REALLY like the feel of the GT2 conversion.
