Default Sticky **** Redux

A common problem seems to be radio control ***** becoming sticky and soft.

How about $3.99 to fix two car radios?

Radio Shack sells a pack of 4 hard plastic control ***** [Item # 274-415] which are the same size as the original stickies.........

They are secured by a tiny grub screw and I put a thin plastic sleeve inside the ****, although it is not really necessary.

Can't beat the fix for $2.00................................

It's a good functional fix, but those ***** look like leftovers from a 1960's sci-fi flick.

You can remove that sticky stuff with a suitable solvent. They're then matt instead of shiny, but still OEM. Worked for me.

You can remove that sticky stuff with a suitable solvent -- what solvent did you use to clean up this mess?

Acetone should work. It will clean them up, but leave them dull. You could then repaint them using a good automotive plastic paint like SEM. Use their plastic adhesion promoter first, and then a black with a satin finish.

IIRC it was acetone. Or thinner... I left mine unpainted, but painting them might be a good idea.

I was looking at the new Boxster and Panamera GTS - their radio ***** look like leftovers from a 1960's sci-fi flick.

So 1960's sci-flick ***** are de riguer - and they are not soft and sticky.

OEM ***** are readily available from Suncoast: http://http://www.suncoastparts.com/...ode=996ttaudio

A bit more expensive, but they do retain the factory appearance if retro sci-fi isn't your thing!

I've noticed that. I'm told retro 60's is very in right now. Unfortunately I have always associated Porsche with timeless design. Trendy in a Porsche isn't a good thing in my mind. I really don't care for the new Porsche interiors. Hopefully, this current wave of unfortunate styling choices will pass.

With VW now at the helm Porsche's timeless [911 style] design may soon be a thing of the past.

Ferdinand's grandson wants Porsche to get out of the SUV and 4 door market [as they compete with VW models] and back to it's more sporting roots. Rumour has it that within the next 7 years Porsche will dump the Cayenne and big butt Panamera. Probably no loss to Rennlist readers.

How much longer the 911 design can last? They have lost their competitive edge with Corvette, BMW and Ferrari on the race track and the 4.0 litre flat 6 may have reached the limit. It certainly appears that the engine location will need to be changed.

Has the timeless design of the Porsche 911 gone or will Porsche use the 911 shell with a competitive mid engine to reproduce past racing glories?

Food for thought.

That's exactly why I have no plans to get rid of my 996. I might add a 993 and 997 to the stable.

The 991 platform has yet to race. Additionally, I didn't by my 996 Turbo based on any racing outcomes.

It certainly appears that the engine location will need to be changed.
Have you driven the 991?
